Color of Money

Wife just informed me Color of Money was airing on HBO 11:30 am Eastern Time today. Just wandering who here has watched movie more than myself? I would say at least 20 times and enough to have most of the lines memorized.

Can't get enough of this movie, wish there were more good pool movies out there.

Oh yea! I'm with you on that one. Great movie. I love the beginning when he is drilling the guy then starts making rediculous offers. Lol!! How about I win no money, you win I pay you. HaHaHa!!!

I was looking forward to the release of this movie back in 87, and was excited to be able to drive my parents to the twin cities for a Dr. visit. This meant that I could find a theatre on opening night to see it. I liked it then, and was guilty of a lot of cue twirling after that.

I watched it in the past year, and it will likely be the last time. Too hokey with the talk about making the 9 on the snap like it is a skill shot, along with other things that I don't recall right now. I will not watch it to refresh my memory either.

Aside from having Newman in it and some nicely done pool shots, not a very well made movie.

If you read the book you can't help notice that it doesn't even remotely follow the storyline. No Vince in the book, no Fats in the movie.

As an avid pool player, I liked the Color of Money a couple of decades ago but I'm afraid that it hasn't stood the test of time. There is a lot about the movie that seems rather corny to me now. I watched Pakners with Efren Reyes on YouTube not too long ago and liked it better than the Color of Money (and 95% of Pakners is in Tagalog with no sub-titles).

Probably, one of the 'WORST' pool related movies of ALL TIME!
'The Hustler' could spot it the 2 and the break!

Well, it is slightly better than Pool Hall Junkies. PHJ's had 20 year olds playing for $5000 like it was nothing.

So many bad scenes in the Hustler and in TCOM it's not even funny. Or maybe it is.

Great movie seen million times will see million more along with the hustler and PHJ

Although the movie has an incomplete feel to it (Scorsese decided to eliminate Minnesota fats from the script and rewrite a completely new storyline from the book) there are scenes in it that are absolute gems. The beginning fifteen minutes is perfect filmmaking-the introduction of Vince and the cool calmness of fast eddy is played as well as anyone could do it. The Forrest Whitaker scene is one for the ages, not just acting but in dialogue too. And how can you not love the werewolves of London scene? To take a classic song and marry it to our classic sport is a gift.

Of course with no resolution between Vince and fast eddy, no mention of Minnesota fats, the movie feels incomplete and not a real sequel to the hustler. So it ultimately falls short. But still excellent.

I like both The Hustler and TCOM only because of their relationship to pool. I can live with the fiction because of that.

I thought Paul Newman's acting in The Color of Money was great. I thought the pool in The Hustler was better ... I think some of the shots were actually done by Mosconi.
