I want to change my game from 8ball to 14.1 but I don't know anything about its rules or how your supposed to play

I looked up rules and on the break you must call a balls pocket, for real?
im supposed to know what ball is going where from the break

also want to know about the break positions, you leave 1 ball to break the next rack with?

confused but want to learn it

if you go on YouTube, and search Straight Pool there is tons of stuff. from Runs to Games.

you will be able to pick up an idea of how to play it from there.

also, there is a Wiki-Page on straight pool that has some rules along with tons of facts about the game.

the BCA has instructions on how to play as well, i know they are online just dont have the exact link right now.

hope this helps.

Yes, if there is no one around to show you how to play, YouTube is the place to start. Reading the rules is necessary but not sufficient.

You are not really expected to be able to call and make a ball on a full 15 ball opening break. The first one to break is considered to be at a disadvantage. That is why the person who wins the lag most often has the other person break.

On the opening break, the breaker, ticks one of the edge balls with outside english and then the cue ball goes three to four rails diagonally up to the top rail near the pocket, hopefully leaving nothing for the other player to make. Two balls plus the cue ball need to hit a rail after the initial impact.

Eventually, someone makes a ball and then the ball running fun begins.

You then have to plan to leave your last ball somewhere and the cue ball somewhere such that after the fourteen balls are racked, you would make the loose ball, and your cue ball would hit the rack and break out some balls for you to continue.

As mentioned there is a lot on youtube.

Scroll down on this forum to a thread started by dmgwalsh and you will see several 14.1 matches and solo runs. That should explain it.
