Didn't they attend team building events recently and participated in the same manner that the selected players did?
And a lot of people attend spring training each year and don't end up playing on the baseball team.

I do not believe they would have been invited to the team building if it was known they would flake on the main event.
Good god, does no one here understand the word tryouts? It means the coach is interested enough in you to allow you to showcase some skill. When that coach doesn't believe the skills put before him aren't up to snuff, you don't get chosen. And when you aren't chosen you aren't part of the team. To put people on blast for not wanting to tag along with a team that didn't choose them is ridiculous.
Maybe I am confused, I thought the players had already been chosen and announced before the paid-for team building stuff?

There are a few that understand what I am saying. There are also a few that will ignore anything that does not paint the 3 as villains.
Go to abr and listen for yourself. Make up your own minds. There is enough info here to do that.
Don't be miss lead by omitted timelines. Misquoted remarks and other statements lacking factual basis.
We are only having this discussion because someone went off half cocked or some devious PR stunt to garner interest in the cup at the expense of 3 young men!

So before this team building event, those unselected three were still under the assumption by others that they would travel to England with the team. After this event took place, the three players decided to no longer attend. Maybe you're right in that if it was known beforehand that they would 'flake' out they wouldn't have been invited. Maybe it's when Mark Wilson decided to assign bullshit titles to these three that they decided to not attend. All we have is speculation fueled by personal opinions. Until those three decide to publicly say why they aren't attending, all that's happening is more drama. We've had enough drama lately.

Cleary, clearly your thinking is off kilter on this. By your reasoning, Mark Wilson is not playing, so he is free to bail also. Just because you aren't playing, doesn't mean you aren't part of the team!
Understand, once they got picked as one of the eight, THEY MADE THE TEAM! That's why they were given other titles, they were still on the team!

It's really just sad that people can't figure out what a team is. If everyone here knew what a team was supposed to be, this thread would of gone no where. Can XXXXX play in England? No. Then they are not part of the team. No ifs ands or buts. Don't assign bullshit titles to someone who is a cheerleader.
Perhaps from here on out, (next year) they should have (or can they have now) a couple of alternates. What would happen if someone were to actually get sick or have to leave in an emergency.
I agree with the first part totally. It is sad so many of you have no concept of "team". By your definitions, all those guys sitting on the bench, standing on the sidelines, or sitting in the dugouts aren't part of the team. Amazing.
Tell me how you would feel about this......you try out for the Mosconi cup but didn't make the cut. You are offered to go along but you will be taking money out of the pockets of the ones that did make the cut. Wouldnt you feel like a freeloader knowing you are riding on someone else's accomplishments? I certainly would. I would gracefully bow out, wish them the best of luck, and try out for the team next year. I couldn't in good conscience, take their money, knowing I didn't earn it. How could anyone feel any differently?
Just think: one of the guys gets sick off some bad bangers and mash and there's no one on the bench :-o
