This is a game for all you guys who say one pocket is too slow , the pockets are too big , or that two shot pushout was terrible.
It's 9 ball, you must call the specific pockets immediately after the break, for each ball in rotation .
If you don't make the ball in that pocket , it's ball in hand for your opponent and he has to call every pocket from there out.
Balls made in the wrong pocket stay down.
No safeties allowed!
You don't have to call caroms, kicks or kisses.
Combinations must be called at time pockets are specified.

I have played something similar with some friends but a little different. 9-Ball and the 1 must be played in the corner pocket to the right side when breaking, 2 in the side, 3 in the corner on the same side on opposite end and keep going around. The 9 can be played early but must be in the correct pocket. If a ball is made early in a different pocket the shooter keeps shooting and that ball spots. This is sometimes necessary when balls are blocking pockets.

Interesting proposal. I have wanted to play 9 ball where the shooter must call the pocket for each subsequent shot. IOW - if shooting the one ball after the break, before shooting the pocket for the two ball must be called. Same for every shot including the 9 ball.

A good way to play

I play 9 Ball and 8 Ball that way to practice position, if you cant make the ball in the pocket you called, ball in hand to the incoming player

will improve your game

When I was playing my best pool I was also playing a lot of chess. Chess I played three to five moves ahead, any possible move on the table. I played a few people that played further ahead but they only played the paths that made conventional sense. The best player I ever played I routinely beat by making a move he didn't anticipate every three or four moves. No good reason other than to derail his thought train.

Anyway, the mental practice playing chess made it duck soup to be able to see entire runouts playing nine ball or both runs playing eight ball. I have never understood the rolling three ball position play. You have to plan your way all the way through the rack to begin with to determine the rolling three pattern or you are going to run yourself into walls so why think at all afterwards unless your pattern gets broken?

Even if a person has to drop down to six ball for awhile this will strengthen many people's game a lot. I would rather beat the six ball ghost like this than the nine ball ghost just planning for the table to open up after three or four balls are made.

Way back when I drew a teen from the PI in the first round. With my respect for the PI greats we hit it off well. After the match he showed me a new game. First one to 3 foul the opponent wins. That was great practice and lord could that kid kick!

That sounds like a marathon.
I like calling the pocket for the following ball after the ball you're shooting .. The next ball must go into the previously called pocket.

Yeah it can get long. It really helps to improve banking though and playing safe.

I never understood the aspect of thinking 3 balls ahead either

I think a lot of people who think this game is no problem, will be unpleasantly surprised at how loose they play and don't realise it.
The six ball ghost will probably be a necessity for most people who are not about short stop level.
