An Open Discussion about an improper Banning

One day to where we could say whatever we wanted and get a free pass on here would be fine with me. Keep it in one thread and then it could magically go away like a lot of other ones seem to do here lately.

I've played a few games on Russ' (Poolhustler) table and we talked about when and how he got it setup.

rkc came up in the discussion, and I didn't get the feeling he had any ill feelings towards him. He didn't know me very well, so perhaps that had something to do with it but I don't think he had a major beef with him prior to this.

Poolhustler is a very good pool player, and from our discussions, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to table setup as well.

At least he didn't commit as great a sin as I did. I made the mistake of quoting someone else and responding to them, and got a three month ban for being off-topic!

Tate, yeah, what he said is a bannable offense. Maybe it will be a short one though.?? As to the antagonizers, they never get nailed for it.
 
If they actually used the Ban hammer more often when needed this wouldn't even be an issue to discuss.. The fact that a banning is soooo uncommon should tell you something about it usually being a last resort thing.... Short bans for trolling, off color remarks, Dragging old crap into new threads.. or just being a jerk should be common.... As people continue to be bad elements then the bans should get longer and longer...

Go F yourself deserves a few days as it's stronger than telling someone they don't know #&5t... The former is over the top... the latter... May or may not be accurate... and based on testimony from a guy that has a diamondized GC with the down angles in question... meh...

So far most of the FB grous seem to do a better job of kicking people off the island... The hide tool may be easier there or it may be the fact that there are more hands on the rudder...
 
Both should have been banned or neither should have. The Kangaroo court style of justice, and the antagonizing trolls that never go away is why I do not get on here much any more. I just don't care. Used to get on every day, multiple times a day. Now just once or twice a week. Pretty much to the point of not getting on at all. Some of you have been great.....top notch. But I am tired of all the negatives..... I.E.....Zeros!

No kidding? That sucks.

I think we need a "first stone" policy. Russ was first crudely insulted by RKC for no reason other than stating an honest opinion about pool table set-ups which was not directed at RKC.

I'd say it was the cussing that got him banned. Thing is about banning someone, is it is up to who runs the site. While we all like to believe this is a organic, growing site, that everyone has input in, it isn't.

And lets be honest, some people get different treatment, like JB who has been banned more times than I can count. It is the moderators choice of who to ban and why, and all in all they do a decent job.

I believe if the site is growing (which I doubt) it's because of people like Russ, who produce real content. Let's get the bad guys, not the good guys!
 
Exactly Chris. Fer an instance. When someone as PH offers an opinion, based on personal knowledge and experience, it shouldn't have been met with that type of attitude.

I could type at least 4 different answers to that statement that would have been more acceptable that what he got.

PH also mentioned something to someone else re sending his rails to Greg. From the past, I think we know how much love Glen has for Greg.

Pool Hall, at least one plus private owners even as far up north as Edmonton, Alberta send rails to Greg. There's a reason for that, that extends beyond quality craftsmanship.

I recently had a mechanic I didn't know ask me if he could take my rails home to work on them. Recalling the last RKC story I said "no" without even a hesitation. I don't think too many would hesitate sending their rails to Greg.

(FYI Russ knows exactly what he is talking about on this subject and has spent many thousands of dollars properly setting up his Gold Crown.)

Well, let me try and explain something so that maybe you'll understand why Russ is full of BS....Send the rails to Mark Gregory to get them done right???????? Mark uses the same 141 miter angles as a Diamond, only with a 13 degree down angle, SO DO I....so where was I wrong...and where was Russ right? I said he didn't know what he was talking about for a reason, that REASON is because he DON'T know what he's talking about, PERIOD! He's been mad at me for years because I WASN'T the one who worked on his pool table, but I guess he thought I was going to be the person who was, his misunderstanding, not mine. I guess he wasn't happy with how his table turned out, ok, I understand that. I've told him that once I get to California and anywhere near him I'd redo the rails on his table for FREEEEEEEEE just to make him happy, no problem. BUT, he's made it a point to badger me over and over again with stupid comments like he made in that thread but that's NOT what got him BANNED, his MOUTH got that done all by itself, he BROKE the rules with foul language and name calling....so GET OVER IT!
 
I've been in California for months now, but because of how Russ has acted over the last few years, I wouldn't touch his table now for no amount of money, whereas before I'd have worked on it for free just to back up the table mechanic that did do the work!
 
Neither should be banned. Mostly because we're adults but also because we're adults. RKC is a the worst though.
 
I knew it would only be a matter of time before you chimed in, just can't stand to be left out when it comes to something about me in a thread, you just can't resist no matter how hard you try, that's the control I have over a lot of posters on AZB....LMAO

I don't know if even-handed banning would attract more Gold memberships, but I do see a lot of ad hominem attacks here, often arriving out of the blue.

The OP makes a post, and fifteen thoughtful and interesting replies later, some other guy chimes in with an off-topic and sarcastic or hateful reply. Then it's off to the races... and sometimes the exchanges escalate to the Eff Wu level.

Maybe more short bans for lesser rule infractions, say one day, three days, maybe one week, would go a long way to informing members, and reducing the worst of the AZB flaming hatefulness. Stop before it gets to the level where someone feels they have to make a harsh reply just to protect their perceived internet honor or reputation.

These activities and behaviors have been going on a long time on AZB. Doing the same old things are not going to make a change, it will just eventually drive away all the pool pros and all the pool teachers and all the serious pool mechanics and room owners - the heart of our sport and industry.

In time, an AZB that does not change could easily devolve into a small core of angry keyboard warriors who have thousands of posts but nothing to say, just a bunch of sarcastic tirades against someone or something.
