Questionable BCAPL Sanctioning Going on in Wisconsin?

Why not just address the concern? We don't need a podcast. I posted part of an email that clearly is breaking your sanctioning agreement that the BCAPL has with their League Operators. Why can WI do this and the rest of the states have to play 8 weeks on separate calendar days?

Seems like you do need a podcast cause Ozzy made it clear that is how he will address your concerns. And with your direct name not an alias on this site.

Classy

I think this is a bit ridiculous that this is allowed. The last BCAPL league I shot in last year ran 20+ weeks where my team and I each traveled anywhere from 25 minutes to 70 minutes to get there. Just to get sanctioned for state and/or regional and nationals. I know a gal who drove 2.5 hours one way for four weeks just to get sanctioned. Now we can do it in one day? Nobody seems surprised about this, so this is obviously common practice for BCAPL leagues.

BCAPL Player Members (now evidently called CSI Associate Members) are not allowed to shoot team events, for reasons of promoting team play. Sanctioning in one day promotes nothing.

...and now we have a board member of that competing league organization attacking the BCAPL. Very professional. The invitation is extended to you as well, sir.

That is not an attack, Ozzy. I’m not sure how you read it as one. They are facts. It is not an opinion, they are facts.

I will reiterate… my team and I traveled very far for all of fall and winter to sanction for BCAPL events in accordance with your rules set forth in the BCAPL League Operator Manual, just as I’m sure nearly everybody sanctioning with the BCAPL does.

My involvement with the WSPA has nothing to do with my displeasure of reading how “leagues” are starting up and running one day “leagues”. One day sanctioning is a slap in the face to every BCAPL league that abides by your rules set forth in the BCAPL League Operator Manual. It is a slap in the face to ANY organized pool association, national or independent, for profit or not, that tries to promote league play.

You see the WSPA as a “competing organization” as you put it. We are not. Allowing one-day sanctioning undermines the growth of pool. You are now competing with yourself. Someone said it’s good that you are doing everything you can to get more bodies to your events. Sure, it is… but at the expense of the league structure? Didn’t Mark buy the “league” portion from the BCA and base an entire company on leagues?... He said it was a mistake that they sold it. You probably remember him saying that: it was during a CSI Podcast. Don’t lose sight of Mark’s goal of promoting league play by allowing one-day sanctions. It will cripple pool, and you know it.

He has yet to answer the questions. If WI can sanction in one day league can the rest of the country? We don't need a debate or a podcast for this. What are the BCAPL sanctioning rules? Are they standard across the country or do they differ from state to state? Just answer the questions. I bet the taverns and pool rooms that support league pool love you new one day leagues.

Not bashing just curious... How does players being able to qualify for a tournament hurt? It gives more players a chance to go. Some people are busy and can only shoot one night a month. Hell, we have a guy on one of our teams that travels for work all the time so we can't qualify for state and he would love to go. I wish more places did this.

BCAPL league policies state "any frequency other than once per week MUST be approved by BCAPL in advance". Think the OP is questioning how the Wisconsin league is playing what appears to be a non-sanctioned schedule.

I travel back and forth from Rochester to Las Vegas. Some years I go enough during a league session I can qualify to play with my Vegas team in July. Other years I don't. Playing an entire session in a day, a week or even a month would be a great benefit for me and probably many others.

The OP's question may not be popular here but I'd be interested in a formal answer to it!

Even if allowable by the wording, is it in the spirit of league? Some people play several weeks, while others finish in a day? Just for the sake of having a state tournament? Just skip a year.

There in lies the real question. The rules as written on paper or the spirit there of. Which is the guiding light? Seems the light may have lost it's focus.

Or perhaps you could grow a pair of balls and take Ozzy up on his offer? At the very least you could not attack CSI/BCAPL anonymously and post your real name.

Tim,

Why not just address the OP's question? Why obfuscate? If BCAPL granted the league a "pass", why not just say so. If they didn't grant a "pass", why defend the league and question the questioner? With the incredible number of unknown keyboard jockeys on AZ, what's the difference if you know the OP's real name. Is his question valid or not? I've paid my $30 to sanction in two BCAPL leagues on separate coasts. I'd like to know the answer.

He offered a venue to discuss and this "cowboy" apparently doesn't want to be known. If you're not willing to put your name on it, then it's worthless.

I like the idea of playing double or triple matches on the weekend as I travel alot. Still want to play in state and national tourneys. Some people see the fast season as bad me as a player I like the idea of it and if it cost more I would pay it. I wish I could play a league match every week but my job does not allow so for me I see this as a huge potential bonus for league play.

In bowling leagues you can 'pre bowl' - meaning I can come in on a Tuesday and bowl my games all in a row, while the rest of the league has to show up on Thursday and bowl one frame at a time. Pool players would whine and cry that this isn't fair. Then there are also weeks that are doubled up all the time.

And in case anyone doesn't think bowling leagues are successful............

Tim,

Didn't Ozzy state he knew who the OP was but did not want to "out" him on a national website. Think this thread has become a discussion of semantics rather than the truth. And yes, I can handle the truth !

If you are a board member of the WSPA and as you stated, are not competing with the BCAPL, why would you give one ounce of care what the BCAPL does or does not do? Doesn't make any sense. Being apart of the WSPA, I can only assume you aren't playing BCAPL anymore. So again - why do you care what they do? Why take the time to post in this thread? Just worry about your own league since you aren't competing with others. :p:p
