Wednesday is the players meeting and maybe a Pro AM event.

Tomorrow starts the real play and WPBA will likely have brackets at www.wpba.com on which they will do a sad job of updating.

And they really drop the ball by not having anyone stream it from Thurs - Saturday before ESPN3 comes in for Sunday's three matches. That one year or so when they had PoolDawg promoting a stream was pretty good.

Quite a number of elites are playing. Any of these are favorites to win:
Alison Fisher
Kelly Fisher
Chen Si Ming
Ga Young Kim
Jasmin Ouschan
Karen Corr

Good to see Chen Si Ming come stateside. Phenomenal player, incredible that she has not won W9B yet.
And I would watch any match with the striking Viking Ewa
Too bad no stream
;)

I agree! Streaming the early rounds would really help build excitement for the finale on ESPN 3... It is great promotion for them as well. A missed opportunity for sure! :frown:

According to ESPN, it looks like the finals are scheduled to be shown this Sunday at 1:00 pm (EST) on ESPN3. Of course, this may turn out to be a re-run of last year's Tournament of Champions. We'll see on Sunday.

I volunteered to stream it.

I told them I was available but hey thats cool. I've got somewhere else I'm going now anyways but I told them I could stream it before the espn rounds which is a waste anyway.

brackets are posted on WPBA web site. It says that the top 4 ( 2 from the winners side
And 2 from the losers side) will redraw and become a single elimination. I hope they are at least going to separate the 2 winners? I don't like this format at all, how unfair will that be if the 2 winners draw each other! Why do the women do these stupid redraws? It's possible the top 3 out of 4 finishers could all have 1 lose, WHO WINS! Am I reading it wrong?

They've been doing their brackets stupidly for a few years now. It got worse when they went down from 64 to 48 players in the event.

They need single elimination for TV-It was always a chore to explain to viewers why they would see a player who just lost come back to play in the finals 2 sets later.

They need SE in the prelims or the newbies would stop coming to the events over time. JMHO.

Only the Masters uses this format. It actually meant something when there was more than event on their calendar.

Pool is one of few sports using a true double elimination bracket anymore. Personally, never liked it. I always preferred what we used in wrestling: once you lose, you go to the L bracket, where the highest you can place is third.

Would it be the same amount of games(3), if they played the semi finals in the losers bracket, then start taping the hot seat match, the losers bracket finals and a Motified longer match for the finals?
I think they started this format to try and prevent Allison Fisher and Karen Corr from
Dominating the tour. A few years back you might beat them once, but probably wouldn't beat them twice!

They want to keep it simple 4-2-1(champion). Everyone is familiar with that. JMHO of course
