It was a pun, emphasizing the differences between the two games.

With today's lighting fast cloth and rails a big power stroke is of little use
Woman snooker players came over and owned woman's pool mostly because of rock solid fundamentals that produce a repeatable stroke time after time again

The only reason the men haven't done the same is the money in men's snooker dwarfs pool ,, Ronnie almost has rock star status if you were to walk out on the street over there and ask if they knew who he was 9 of 10 or better would say of course he's a world champion snooker player

Now spin to here and walk out and say who is CJ Wiley and you'll get ya I know who he is he's the coyote chasing the road runner beep beep :D

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago where some of the people in attendance were from the UK. The conversation briefly touched on snooker and the guys knew who Ronnie was and that he had recently won the World Championships and was taking year off. They weren't snooker fans, and said they had never played but yet they at least knew of him and his exploits.

It's similar to how in Canada, you can speak a non-hockey fan and they will probably know who won the Stanley Cup or at least the World Championships. Though that is not to say that Snooker is anywhere near as popular as Hockey in Canada.

You're right about now, however when pros were on ESPN consistently I couldn't walk through an airport without being recognized time and time again.

Many the professional athletes knew pro pool players because they watch ESPN most of the time (and also like to play pool for entertainment). I've been introduced to literally hundreds of pro athletes that like pool when I was heavily in the nightclub/billiard business.

ESPN is the key in the United States, just like SKY SPORTS is the main ingredient to Ronnie's status (Barry Hearn is also an expert marketer/promoter).

I'd wager Efren is a bigger star in the PI than Ronnie is in Europe, not that it has any bearing on the discussion.

There is an interview with Ronnie floating around somewhere where the reporter asks him directly how he would do in the US playing 9 ball, and If my memory serves me he said he would struggle because there are subtleties to the game like banks and kicks that he has virtually no knowledge of, and would take years to learn.

He is an amazing champion and a force of nature to watch, but In my opinion the "greatest cueist of all time", or at least in my lifetime (41), is Reyes.

Well pool is the national sport in the PI. I do agree with you though. Ronnie himself has stated how he feels he would do in the pool world & it is far less glowing an assessment than his star struck fans. I also agree with you in Efren being the greatest Cueist of all time. This is a sport that doesn't suffer fools and crushes egos & seldom does any one player dominate for any period of time like in every other sport but Efren did, for a loooonnnngg time. Young Shane has dominated the American scene for awhile now but not at the level that Efren did in his prime & contrary to what many may think Efren did so against stronger players than Shane faces now..

I consider, based on his accomplishments in the sport, Earl to be the best 9 ball player ever. And Efren was every bit a match or more for the Pearl in 9 ball.

That said, I could count on 1 hand how many games of Snooker I had played in the last 25 years, and watched even fewer, until I learned about Ronnie O'Sullivan. Thanks to YouTube I have now had the pleasure of watching this amazing artist for hours on end. I find myself watching with my mouth open a lot.

There is FAR more to pro snooker than ronnie o'sullivan.

All around Reyes but no one I've seen in top gear plays like Ronnie and the only person who ever really beats him is himself , he is a true head case , I think it was the last world title he won where he thanked his shrink ,

the only advantage of a snooker player is pocketing accuracy. IMO, in terms of cueball control and strategy, a pool player has the advantage.

Cj, could you elaborate on his stance and adapting it to pool? Former snooker players like Jayson Shaw, Chris melling, Alison Fisher and Karen corr seem to keep their hips more square to the table however their inside foot is on the shot line, like you advocate in your secrets of pool video.
 
With your "foundation" (feet) set consistently it also sets your right/left side

The snooker stance is much more open than the traditional pool stance. This gives the shooter a better visual perception of the shot, however, it's a trade-off when it comes to cue ball maneuverability.

I recommend positioning the left foot parallel to the line of the shot and further forward than the typical snooker stance. Also, it helps power shots to have the hip slightly closed, which is vital for a top level pool game.

Even if you choose to stand differently you should identify your feet's positioning, and make sure to stand that way as much as possible. With your "foundation" (feet) set consistently it also sets your right/left side properly (for consistency).

This is essential to develop the feeling that you're shooting the same type shot time and time again.
