Longer cue uniloc

Hi,

Playing with 314.2 uniloc shafts + Predator Ikon (2nd generation), I am looking after a longer butt (62 or even 63") with an uniloc system. After many many searches on the web, I don't find this. How is it possible that the Predator industry doesn't manufacture longer butts?

Buy an extension that goes btwn the shaft & the handle (@ the jnt).
Cheaper than a new cue wouldn't you agree?

Leave the butt standard length and have a longer shaft made... it feels better than a longer butt.

I play with the balance rite but two joints is not optimal, I think.
And it adds weight ...

Ok .... if you can donate an existing shaft.... it is possible to take the joint and thread from that shaft and use it in a new shaft of up to 34 inches.......... I do that all the time on 31 inch shafts........

A 34" shaft would require a very special shaft blank.
Most shaft rounds or squares are around 32" in length.

There is a reason.

There is no market for building cues like that as long cues in general don't hit that well. They give a springy feedback with a standard diameter butt cap diameter, joint and tip sizes. They are too resilient. I guess if you made it thicker to scale with the same taper contours it would be ok and not so springy. They make tips up to 15 mm.

I am sure that Predetor or OB use standard 29 inch units to do their testing concerning deflection data and 30 inch is the production blank size. Maybe Royce at OB could help you on this one.

From what I understand, Harvy Martin always built his cue with his shafts longer than the butt . This gave his cue a little more joint to joint foot print at the face. If I were going to build a super long cue like that I would increase the thickness of the butt diameter and length and then make a longer shaft with a custom contour ending at 14 mm tip as a start point. You would have to do testing to see how it hits.

I am not trying to get the job of building a cue like that by any means, just commenting. I do not like to deviate from my standards but I am sure there are some more daring that will make your cue.

Have you ever played with a cue like that or are you just curious and want to try one that size?

Shaft blanks usually come 30 inches long... you can buy 33 inches on special order. If you add a tenon at the end you can get 34 inches.

Most long shafts that I build are 31 or 31 1/2 long.

These players are not interested in an LD shaft and my shafts are certainly not LD.

No one has ever detected a change in the feel of the hit .... on the contrary, they all love them...

A long shaft on a standard length butt does not make the cue feel long like a 50/50 split and the weight difference is not detectable...

Never played with this kind of cue.
Furthermore, living in Belgium (Europe), il is difficult to buy a 'handmade' cue with confidence; there are so many factors determining the playability and the feeling. The lenght is important but the balance, thickness, type of shaft, etc. are other important factors. Playing with low deflection shafts (314.2), I don't want to change this, for ex.

Have you asked Schmelke Cue's? They may be able to make you a cue to your specs. Find their website and send them an email.

Just took a look on their site. I didn't know these cues! The options are just incredible (weight, of course, but also lenght, many joints, uniloc included, etc.).

What are the REAL (in quality, I mean) differences between all their models?

Difficult to choose between the series and cues, because there are no explanation at all (fabrication, advantage of a wood or another).

For ex., what is the best wood?

I prefer cues with no wrap, but unfortunately, they don't do that. I HATE linnen wrap. The leather of my Ikon 2d generation is OK, I don't kno if the leather wrap proposed as an option in Schmelke Cue's is comparable or not.

Another thing: how ist it possible that Seybert doesn't buy Schmelke Cue's?
