I always thought Pool was supposed to be a social activity.
We talk a lot about Pool but does anyone here ever get together to play?

Do you really play pool? When? What games? How often?

In what way do you find challenges in the game? Do you practice?

Do you play tournaments?

Inquiring minds really want to know!

Robin. I have been known to pretend that I play pool.

Back when we had an actual hall in town, other than playing League 2 evenings a week, I was at the hall at least 2 or 3 times a week.

God I miss those Saturday 9 Ball tourneys. And the 9 footers.

League takes up the decent tables in the bars 4 nights a week. The other free evenings, most times you have to suffer the drunken knobs that want to challenge the table. Which is their right to do on a challenge table of course. Just that one can't get in any decent practice time. And then, it's on a seven footer.

Ah I have a bite! Thanks for replying.

I always enjoyed the challenge table, it made for some interesting games!

I know what you mean by having to share the place with the Pool League folks but I'm glad they are there. I just retired and it seems like Im so busy trying to get caught up from 20 yrs of being behind that I havent made going to tournaments a priority yet but I find games to get into. I cant make myself commit to doing anything at a certain time lately if you know what I mean.

I love to just play pool.

A friendly 'competitive' game for just fun is the most FUN.

We do it quite a bit at the Hall I frequent.

Best 2 You & All,
Rick

We have a standing game at the local hall 2 nights a week, with from 3 - 8 players showing up. Two of us havie been playing there for about 5 years with the rest of the group changing over the years. We only play 9 ball and don't call the 9 to give all levels a chance to win.dont play for money, but we have a great time.

If I could get back the amount of table time i once had when I owned a bar I would be a force to reckon with (but most prob think the same think). I love pool deeply and wish I could do it far more than the 1 sunday a week when i'm in 14.1 league or the "oh i'm off today, let me go hit some balls". I love practice and could do it for hours without bother. For me it's about playing and executing with consistency, winning or snapping of tourney and such come second, Ive had my share of winnings and the like but now what bothers me the most is when I don't play well. If if lose but played well it doesn't bother me but when I lose 'or win" and played poorly it's enough to make me want to not pick up the stick for a few days or longer.

I play pool. (Or attempt it, given how poorly I play)

I play league a couple nights a week. On league nights, we often have practice tables available, so we all get to play about as much as we want to.

I also get to our Eagles club at least one other night and play, as well. We have a good bunch that usually all make it in on Friday nights, some pool, some beer, some fun. We often end up with a game of 3-6-9, this week we had nine players!

That sounds like a lot of fun!

Im not sure im playing pool exactly, very similar if yr 20-30 meters away from my table, but actually its not a pool :) cuz with my skills and stroke i miss straight balls and using many dirty words about. But im trying to play 3-4 hours twice week with my friend, who is playing exactly the same as me, mb a bit more stable) Tournaments? No, dont wanna be a clown)
Favorite game, hm, mostly playing 14.1, 8 ball sometimes, 9 ball very rare, 10 ball tried once))

i do not really do it as a social event, more of a "beat up the opponent". I play not as often as I did a month ago but still get in 3 days/week. I practice from 30 minutes to one hour prior to play, usually on a shot that is giving me trouble for the week. I play a master's league once a week and I much prefer this format ( no handicap). some days I shoot "lights out" and other days I go home bruised as I have beat myself up for the lousy play. ;)

Comments from Russia, wonderful.

Pool is a great game. Do you play Pyramid?

I believe if we did not love the game none of us would be hanging around AZB...
We are all hooked AZB junkies.

Very rare also, just if im playing so bad im starting to hate pool and switching to pyramid to cool the brain))) but i dont have my own pyramid stick, so i have to play with club cue :)

I've always played alone(unless you count the ghost), it's about practice time for me. I figure why spend half my time sitting in a chair when I can be playing.
If I want to watch somebody play it'll be Earl,Shane, Efren, etc.

Less than I'd like, that's for sure. I can almost always be found at the local place on Saturday and Sunday from 11am until somewhere between 3 & 5 in the afternoon. That is when the tables start to fill up with normal non-pool folks and I take off. The place I play has 8 9' Diamond tables but it's mostly a bar/resteraunt so it gets way more non-pool player traffic. There is a group of regulars I see there that play in their league and I've met a couple of them so far, but no real playing partners yet.

I don't play during the week typically because I don't want to go to a loud bar scene in the evenings...I need a home table! I'm hoping to get on a league in the new future though so I can get in a little playing time during the week that way.

I wish there was a more dedicated pool hall type place that was close by, somewhere I could stop into for a quick hour of play after work without worrying about the post-work go for a beer crowd that the bars get.

50? Hrs a week.

You could say I play.

I work a rotating shift and play almost every day that I am off. I play in a league once a week, except the one week a month I have to work nights. Occasionally a ten ball ring game. But yes, there are very few days that I'm off work that I don't play.
