Current top 25 for USA Mosconi Cup Team

Cool

What I find Very Cool  about what's going on...is points being given to Many More Events than ever before. This alone will help chum the players into action, and make em work at their trade with a goal.........FINALLY of some type, other than just playing and ending up at the US Open on their dime. This is first and a great move for the game the Players and the entire industry.

+1...sounds like he has been working hard on his game and playing very well. Would be nice to see someone who grew up in my hometown tear it up on the team.

Ya and he would bring a lot of energy to the team. He was very enthusiastic during bonus ball. Did you guys grow up in Phoenix?

They announced they would use a points system, they just haven't described it in detail. I didn't mean to suggest that they just made a new announcement - I edited my post to try to make it clearer.

Ok, got ya. Yeah I thought something new had come out buteven if they did it didn't make sense if you still had to guess at it. Thanks

Looking at the list of 25 players, the top 5 would make a pretty decent team. They wouldn't be the favorites against the Euros, but I'm not sure any 5 Americans would. Still, its nice to see a system where if you want to be a Mosconi Cup member, you just need to step in and see if you're good enough.
On that side of it, I find it strange that some who weren't invited to participate last year and had a lot of supporters, didn't participate in the USBTC. It would be interesting to know if they just decided to skip it, or if there was another reason.

Where has Justin Hall been?

I was wondering that too. He was the USA Mosconi MVP last year for sure. He didn't play in the USBTC as far as I know, and he did play (and did great) in the one-pocket and banks divisions at Derby City, but they didn't have Mosconi points.

Full Schedule?

Does anyone else see a problem with the fact that a full schedule of qualifying points events isn't yet available? How can any set of American players who are not full time touring pros adequately prepare their logistics, travel and sponsorship requests for these events if a cemented schedule of play is not yet in place?

I find this to be quite frustrating, as I'm sure other players who are at a point in their careers where they would like to take their games to higher levels would as well. The current and repeating statement from Matchroom Pool is ...

"The full calendar of qualifying events as well as the points system to be used will be announced in due course."

...as cited in the previous announcement articles listed here

This is a stark contrast to the European structure of calendar events and play which is very easy to follow and prepare for if you're a player looking to contest for a coveted Mosconi Cup team position as seen here.

This simple distinction between the Euro side and American side alludes to a deeper undertone of discontent with pool and billiards here in the United States. I think it's evident that as a community, if we are to see the sport grow, and in turn witness improved results against a highly efficient and organized opposition, we need to raise our standards when it relates to organization as well as play and take necessary actions to see that we have a clear, outlined and organized schedule in place. This gives all players, not just the known top echelon Americans, the best opportunity to prepare, travel to, and compete for an opportunity to represent their country.

He's at home with his kid, the USBTC was going to cost him about 2500$ to play in. He's going to attend the other points events now that there's time to plan. Hard to fork out time and a big bank roll to attend a tournament weeks after spending 11 days in derby.

I'd be happy to see a Scott Frost or similar type of player get a crack at it, we've seen some pretty bad performances over the last four years, why not give him a shot.

I also think Dechaine maybe can handle the pressure now, his talent certainly makes him a top 5 player in rotation games right now in the USA.

I also don't think SVB should be a lock, he should have to sit out a year after stinking up the joint that bad last year.
