Im not new to the game but new to actually wanting to be good. don't need to make the pros, with my age and family It probably wouldn't work out anyway. At 19 I was captain of a BCA team for 2 years at a bar called the Turtle. couldn't get the darn drunks to show up. its 20 years later now and I never lost the want to play but was getting tired of playing in the local neighborhood bars it was getting to easy to beat people. I was kind of intimidated by the local rooms so I started looking for bars with better players. Found a local bar with a $5 tournament ,played a few weekends and was asked to be on a APA team. Cant get in till the next season . So I went to a local room to buy a tip for my stick and these two old guys were playing one pocket I had never heard or seen the game played. man that looked like a fun game . started talking to the old guys and they weren't the argent people I thought they would be . I really have a different view on the room . Past there the other night and played with them till 5 in the morning. Got to try some stuff I read on here and worked out pretty good. I just picked up on a free one piece slate and Im going to build me a table. I know I can pick up a table for $100 but I like building crap. Any way that's my story. Ill be asking questions shortly.

there are a lot of very knowlegable people on here who are happy to give advice. just gotta wade through the b.s . and train wrecks.:grin-square:

Glad you're here. Not only can you add to your wealth of knowledge by being here, but the social interaction is beyond comprehension. I know I can't imagine what life would be like without this place.
No, really I can't. I use to have one. I'm almost certain I did.

Popeye31...Welcome to AzB. If you like it here, like you say, become a Gold Member...costs ya 10 cents a day, but shows a lot about supporting the site, and gives you great chances to win very cool stuff! There are other folks here who built their own tables too, so you'll probably get some cool advice on that front. If you ever want to really learn how to play, we can steer you a qualified instructor, who can help make the game a LOT more fun to play. Just let us know where you're located!

Welcome aboard... Putting in your locale will help out.. I'd say several of us have slates laying around that would be a good start to your project if the one piece doesn't work out... I have a set of slates from a Brunswick 9ft that would be fine aside from a dowel crack that is easily repaired...

As far as learning one-pocket... Accu-Stats.com has a dvd in their library from the All Star Invitational... AS14-1P3D*: Darren Appleton defeats Shane Van Boening 4-1 (DVD)

Billy Incardona spends the entire match with Thorsten in the booth explaining all of the nuances and strategy associated with playing one-pocket the right way... If you want to learn one-pocket this is a must watch DVD.....

Welcome to the big leagues, Popeye. :)

I must alert you, like I do with all new members, that if you should receive an invite to come aboard Tramp Steamer's yacht for a weekend of fun, he really doesn't own the one you see in his avatar.

Actually, he's a little dinghy. :grin-square:

best,
