Question for fellow repair people

Every time I do a repair I write it down in a book, including name, cue brand, shaft or butt, and then repair and materials used. I've been doing this for 6-7 years. Does anyone here use a computer based program for doing this? I am aware of database programs, but would like to here if anyone has one that is easy to setup and/or ready to run outta the box with little setup.I tired of flipping pages that go back years some times. I'd like to just type in the name and pull up the whole info at once. Freeware based would be even better. Thanks for your help.

I'm sure it would, but I'm not a fan of it....too complicated for my liking. I'm more of a pre-done kinda guy when it comes to this rather then a 'spend 4 months learning how to set it up right' kinda guy.

My grandfather has been running an archery shop since the late 60's and he does the same thing with his repair work for bows, arrows, or anything of the sort.

He uses excel primarily because it's easy for him to use considering he's not the most computer savvy
You can look up templates for how to organize data similar to what you do that may give you an idea or in general make things easier for you if you don't find a program better suited to what you like.

I wrote a program a few years ago and gave it out, it needed a few tweaks, I'll see if I can find it and let you look at it next week.

Jesse's program was called cue building manager.
About 8 meg to download as a Rar file, it was named cmb.rar
Interesting as the installed name is cue building manager

To install on win 7 64bit, I used "Run as administrator" on the rht click option.
Loaded fine.
I do not know how to tweek it, but I just fill in the cue details, tip type, ferrule size ,other work done etc.Handy to have.It has lots of other features that I have not used.
I am not wiz on computers like others are. Computers are just a tool to use for me.

That sounds like something like I'm looking for. Thanks.
I'm not computer illiterate by any means, just not well versed in setting up database type programs, so when I've had to do anything with them, it takes me awhile to figure stuff out.

Just use your works or word program and save a page by the cutomers name and just type what you do on the page each time and there it will be in ABC order all the time easy to find.

I am sure Jesse will share more next week with a tweeked version. Patience in our friend.

Word also has a feature to search for words so no matter how long the file got you can easily find what you want just with a simple search of the document.

If you allready have Excel and know how to surf the web and use email and such (as in very basic computer skills) then really
it's not hard at all and I could probably tell you everything you need to know in a 10 minute phone call or teamviewer session.

Something like the attached picture.

Aloha

Check into Intuit Quickbooks app for the IPad. It works great for keeping contacts, invoices, inventory, customer info, notes,Ect.

A very powerful program, and you can take CC right on the spot with no worries about the checks in the mail sort of people. Very easy to use.

Here is the program I gave out a couple years ago. I have not modified it in any way. The backend is an access database, if you have Microsoft access you can open the file and look at it, otherwise it uses the jet drivers in windows to open it and use it. I will post the source code tomorrow if I get time at work. It is written in Windows Forms/Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 with DevExpress controls. I know I need to add in a reports section, I actually forgot all about it.

I couldn't attach the rar file so I put it on a website I have been playing with.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and help. I actually started to play with the open office database section and the wizards seemed easier to use than Excel, which I don't have on the laptop. I will be playing with Jessie's program later today.
Thanks and Happy Easter Everyone.

When I try to download that rar file, I get an error...

That's just too simple of an idea Chris! :D

I had the same error when I clicked the name, seems you have to click the arrow to the far right.

Jessie, I played with the program a bit today and I'm impressed with the ease of use. Reports would be nice, but this gets me going in the direction I wanted. Thanks Very much.

If you have Microsoft access you can write some reports for it. I'll see if I get some free time this week if I can build a dynamic report builder for it.
