WRISTS - The "hidden power catalyst" of a great stroke or "just along for the ride"?

we know how to "feel" the angles with our eyes, and create touch for the pocket.

Great advice imo.

It´s amazing to see how accurate you are when doing this, that is if you have a good PSR, vision etc.
A mild version of this that I like is to go down just looking at the OB and then look at the CB and stroke with no prestrokes. It tells me that I look at the angles right, or wrong. Doing it right the aim is perfect already.

Thanks for all your help and insight CJ

Yes, when we consciously lower one of our senses the others naturally get heightened. This is the secret of my pre shot routine, I'm selective about when I focus my visual sense, and how it effects my feel and touch for each and every shot.

None of the champion players pocket balls because they see better, it's because we know how to "feel" the angles with our eyes, and create touch for the pocket.

The Silly Images and Words From CJ Are the Teacher.

How is this not funny? We are just talking about a game, the most important thing is to have fun when playing games.... enjoy the experience, we may not have another chance.

As I've said before, I cannot believe you EVER re-read any of your posts, before you hit submit ? Please explain to me, (or anyone) the value of your last few posts, as they are perfect examples of what you always seem to offer ..Do you really think anyone (beginner or expert) can possibly relate to what you are saying, and how you say it ? Then, when someone points that out to you, you will often come up with a silly, pointless cartoon, usually completely unrelated to the subject at hand!

Sorry to keep 'ragging' on you, but I feel the need to enlighten the poor souls, that seem to think you make ANY sense at all !..You should change your motto to.."MY Game is NOT your Teacher"!
I fully expect your usual reply, but could you please try and come up with something NEW ?..(I also fully understand, this may take you a while) :o

PS..I am thinking of poisoning my own drink, if you keep calling me 'Dad' ! :embarrassed2: (so I know you will)

If that is how you joke, I'd hate to see how you are when you really go after someone. :grin-square:

It's his standard MO, Dave -- he insults and demeans and then says he was just joking.

Thanks PJ.

Concerning the content that was being discussed, I trust that people can judge for themselves whether or not the information on my follow-through resource page makes sense and is meaningful. I think the info on the page and via the supporting links helps clear up many common misconceptions concerning the stroke.

Dave

PS to CJ: I sincerely apologize for showing any disrespect. You certainly deserve respect for the level of play you were able to achieve in the past. Some of us might disagree with some of the ideas you propose (and the way you present them), but we should do so in a respectful way. Peace!

Your absolutely right , maybe after 2 hundred pages we will all understand one on the simplest things in the stroke and we can pay homage to him for helping us do so

dials your instinctual aiming in like few other things

There are a few drills I do personally to raise my level of touch and feel for the cue ball. Another one is purposely standing a foot or two higher than usual on each shot for 20 minutes.....this dials your instinctual aiming in like few other things can do.

Yep! In fact, if I bend over with my chin close to the cue as is conventional nowadays, it impairs my aiming. I'm sure you've seen the 14.1 match between Luther Lassiter and Cicero Murphy over on You Tube. I'm about as far up as Lassiter. On long testers, instead of bending over at the waist, I get my eyes down somewhat by keeping my back at the same angle as Lassiter and extremely bending my knees. I think I'm probably the only player on earth who does this. It works for me. I'm quite happy being 5 '7 and 145 when I play pool.

"rule of thumb" is I get lower on the cue ball as the object ball gets further away

Yes, you'll do fine standing higher up on the shot, it actually has some advantages.

Most of the players that get really low started when they were very young. Luther Lassiter was known as the greatest shot-maker of his time, and there were a host of other champions that played with their chin off the cue. Buddy Hall kept his head fairly high on most shots, and so did Wade Crane and Keith McCready.

My "rule of thumb" is I get lower on the cue ball as the object ball gets further away. When I'm very close to the object ball my head is the highest, it gives me a more consistent perception of the distance.

And how do you know if he's had a drink?

Actually, he's right Lou..If you think a normal, intelligent, God fearing person (such as myself) could carry on a verbal exchange with a dingbat like CJ..without first getting completely bombed out of my mind, you are sadly mistaken ! :sorry:

In fact, he has driven me to pursue alternate methods of coping !..I am now heavily into heroin, cocaine, LSD, and any other hallucigen, that will 'dumb me down' to his level !..;)

PS..My 65 years or so, in a pool room, were spent never using drugs !..Two years with CJ, and I'm a full blown addict !

Police recently arrested SJD on drug charges.

DIck allegedly had been selling pills he claimed would give you eternal youth.

When going through their files, police discovered it was the fourth time SJD had been charged.

His earlier arrests were in 1664, 1882 and 1928.

Sometimes you/I crack me up. I guess we all do it. LOL

You aren't quite as funny as CJ but you are improving. LOL

APOLOGIZE, but before you finish the post, you make sure to get in one last NEEDLE for what you are apologizing for.

BAZINGA. :D

You are correct. Good job making me see the immaturity in my pointless reply. This is the type of thread that makes me embarrassed to be part of the pool world.

I usually do a better job at ignoring immaturity and petty insults, but I carelessly allowed myself to be dragged down into the muck. I will be more careful in the future.

So a player can have a good stroke, and a terrible follow-through?

Isn't the follow-through part of the stroke?

A player can a have a good stroke from an appearance/mechanical standpoint, but still not have any stroke. Stop playing dumb you clown.
