Would you spend 10 bucks

Regulars should be thrilled that 2 of the best 1p players in the world come to their venue. I would pay 50$ to see these 2 monsters. It's easy to brag about how pool goes deep in shit every day but not do one thing to help it out of the hole. This kind of cheap attitude will bury this game forever...soon

Let's say:
Some friends and I frequent the local bowling alley for some weekend fun. One weekend, there are some professional bowlers coming into town. They are coming to town to do an exhibition at the local bowling alley and are charging $20 a head.

Do you think it's nitty, if me and my friends decide not to go bowling, because they want to charge us $20 each to see a pro bowler that we really don't care to see?

Most regulars at halls don't give two ****s about seeing two pros play.
I happen to be one of those regulars.

I bet you don't...but if you consider yourself a regular of a poolroom (not the bar!!) and you don't give a flying ***k that 2 monsters of the game you are going to play (and love cause' you called yourself a regular) in that room are there to play(gamble or not...) for a few hours, why go to play the game of pool at all..?! Just saying...

...and yea I'll pay 20$ to see those bowlers spinning the rock...if that was my game...
Btw, my poolroom also hosts concerts and other events every month. Why should I go if I didn't even hear about those guys on the stage ...right? ....

I watch free live streams when I can and when they are on.
I watch recorded live stream matches on YouTube when I have free time.

I also don't have cable, but I do pay for Hulu+, so I can watch recorded shows when I want. However, I'm not willing to pay to watch pool, as I enjoy playing more than I enjoy watching. I would say the same is true for most pool players.

I enjoy watching college baseball, because I can't play college baseball.
I enjoy watching college football, because I can't play college football.
I don't even play golf, but I enjoy watching the PGA Tour when I have free time.

This can always go back to the same old conversations about why pool isn't enjoyable to watch.

I am confused. At the beginning you say you will watch matches that are free whether they are live streamed or recorded. Then at the end you say pool is not enjoyable to watch. Is it just not enjoyable enough for you to spend $5 on or because you will watch if it is free.........

You also can't play at the level professional pool players play at. Do you watch your buddies on league night or just practice and leave after your match? Do you watch other players in tournaments? Or is it all just about you?

To say I don't drink is a lie, but that's another story.

I really don't care if two "Monster Players" show up at my pool hall. I enjoy playing pool, not watching it. I never saw anything when I started playing that said I have to enjoy watching "Monster Players" play on the table in the corner.

You are really asking me, why I wouldn't want to sit and watch to pool players play pool for a few hours. Tell me I don't love the game as much as you do, but calling me nitty, not a regular, or whatever else, is simply untrue.

What if it's not my game and I still enjoy bowling on the weekend? There are a lot of people that enjoy bowling regularly, but are not bowlers. What say you, then?

I typically don't go to concerts for bands I don't care for. If you do, more power to ya', but it's not my thing, and to chastise me for not liking what you like to do is absurd.

I do watch matches online, at my leisure. I also choose what matches I want to watch. That is not the same as two professionals coming to town on a set schedule. My only choice is to go or not go, in which most instances I won't go. Ya follow me?

You have one thing right, I don't play at the level of professionals. About everyone on AzB knows that. I do watch my buddies on league nights, because I enjoy being with my buddies. I also go watch when my buddies are gambling, because, again, I enjoy being with my buddies. I'll watch other players in tournaments, when I'm in the tournament and am waiting on my match. Is it all about me? Depends. If I'm going to practice, I don't want to be bothered. If I'm going to gamble or play in a tournament, then that's a different story.

What I choose to do is always about me. It was my choice after all. The problem with pool entertainment, is that there is not enough reasons for someone like me, to go out of my way and spend a measly $10 to watch some professionals play. I'd love to go to the SBE, but I have no interest in going to an exhibition to watch players.

What this guy said.

A lot is to be said for locals, they keep the rooms open. In the same sense out of town people need to know where to go when they get in town, and yes if I drove from out of town to watch, I'd expect to pay.

In the end though, I'd still pay the $10, and like someone else mentioned, a few of the kids who might not have enough to come in and spend $10 could get in based off others throwing in a $20 and make some new life long one hole players who would grow to love the game.

The reason so many rooms are closing is because the locals are not supporting them. Players want everything for free. The main thing keeping pool rooms open is the bar and leagues.

at a local pub I frequent with pool, leagues, and tourneys , I'm pretty sure the regulars would not pay $10 to see neither Alex vs Scott nor Efren nor Earl nor Mosconi come back from the dead

it is what it is

just because people here like pool, does not change certain realities

pool is no different than any other game or sport aspiring to financial success

the sooner people realize this and get into 2015.com the sooner said success will arrive

The one pocket match with Scott Vs Alex was going to charhe 10 dollars @ the door and
due to complaints from regulars, they have decided not to charge.

I found this out on Scott's FB page. What are you guys thoughts on this?

I personally would have happily paid to see this if it were close enough but

evidentally a lot of people would not. Any thoughts from you all? Is this really

good for our beloved sport? I think NOT!!

Couple arrested for not letting homeless man sleep in spare bedroom , news at 11. Widow chastised by social justice advocates for only giving two mites...

Then stay home. This isn't for the "Regulars", it's for the people who want to watch two of the best in the world go head to head.

They charge a price, whether it's $10,$20, or $50. You don't like it ......Go Home.

DAVE_M I blame no one here buddy. I was just trying to explain to you how I am trying to support my poolroom. Playing pool 10h a week and drinking 12 bottles of water won't help them much. At least I don't share my water, but that's another story..
And if enjoy a game, activity enough to try it for myself that means i really love to be around everything that activity/sport/game involves.
So to answer your question...yes I'd pay 20$ to see the bowlers if bowling is an activity that I enjoy even for 2h a month as long as that contribution of mine will help my home poolroom.
We are what we are...and we drink what we want...but I thought that 99% of the members of this forum really love pool.
So so wrong...I know I can't quit believing tho....

this wouldn't fly around here:
1) KK9 & EZMoney are the only two people who play 1P
2) <10% of regulars & leagues can name 3 pros & don't care
3) it's been tried & failed. even with no cover charge, and $20/game to play a pro (if you won, your cost was $0), the turnout was minimal

i'm sure the room owner had a business decision to make. make $10/night on those willing to pay? or lose $5/hr + drinks & food revenue for those who refused? he should set-up a curtain & charge entry.

now $10 isn't a lot, but we wouldn't go either. it's 1P - grueling to watch & we've already seen them play. and while we know the pros & have supported pool, we'd rather be playing. (we'd probably go for 8B/9B/10B.)

Thank you thank you thank you

Some people on AzB get butthurt about the opinions of others.

I enjoy the game. I don't care for the industry.

I have been considering flying out to see the match
probably cost $1000 air,hotel,food,rentcar

so $10 wouldn't make much difference

however if I lived there and shot pool every day and could care less about these 2 guys
i would probably play elsewhere

The only reason I would go is to see Billy,Jack and probably eddie and possibly
gamble with the boys, drop by south west cues on nolan lane and take everyone
to lunch or dinner,

But my wife has explained that i have things to do here, but go ahead if i want to

ie...it looks bad for me

back to the $10,who cares if they charge or not,I would not charge if I owned the place
why offend the regulars, most of whom don't know these 2 guys

People do it every year at the US Open 9 ball tournament. I used to go to the US Open 14.1 almost every year and even back then it cost me a grand. The difference is, going live it is a complete experience, watching it in my underwear alone at home is a bit different.

I can see why people don't want to pay for streaming, there is so much for free who cares. Pool matches have no real meaning. One match looks like the next to most people.

Now if you could bet on it it would be interesting to watch.

It is interesting the number of viewings they get on youtube. One that has only been up just a few months has 116,000 views. That is like 1300 people are watching that one video everyday so someone wants to watch pool, I guess they just don't want to pay. There must be thousands and thousands of views everyday with all the pool videos on there. You can't tell me no one cares to watch.

Wow, I just had a weird thought, has it really been 10 years since IPT.

Everyone should pay, period. If $10 is too much to support your halls owner then that's just sad. I believe the Nit cream is on aisle 7.

This is exactly what I thought! WTF is 10 bucks to even further support your place.
If more people felt this way, maybe pool halls wouldn't be closing on a regular basis

People can't be made to feel like nothing but a $ sign to the pool room or any business for that matter. Something is being done wrong if the people have that attitude. I used to put on tournaments and charged nothing.

The end of the night the bar maids would have like an extra $300.00 in their cups from happy customers who had a great time. Contrary to popular belief, people don't mind spending money, they enjoy it. But sometimes they can be made to resent it. Thats what you have to avoid.

I forgot to mention, I would do an extra grand myself. I got my money, just not at the door not to mention the good will it created. They know what this stuff used to cost me and they appreciated it.

10 bucks isn't even 2 beer in a Canadian bar. If I were to see high caliber playing for that,
I would keep quiet about it, lest they decide to up the price of admission.

These Customers that you mentioned that complained, they are the ones that drink as much Free coffee from the owner as they can, and then switch to water after. But, it has to be Ice Water and preferably with Freshly Squeezed Free Lemons in it, right.

And then of course, wait staff has to bring you the Free stuff and also clean your table after wards. I know how that shite works.

Yeah, if a ten is going to crush you, for an event, the owner is better off not having to deal with you anyway for the most part.

Probably for something like this, I would not have a problem paying a 20 to see the action Live. And I would be drinking lots of beer and eating.
