How would you rate my speed based on this video?

Another random comment on your rating. When I was a developing player over the years, I always asked myself: How many games on the wire do I need against the best in the world to have the best of it, and rated my ability on how well I honestly thought I closed that gap over the years. Even though it's very subjective, it's a true assessment that encompasses everything.

Then why post a video asking AZBers what they think your speed is based on this video if you are not playing to full potential????

It may have been a waste of time watching this to rate a player than can run multiple racks of 9 and 10 ball, but at least it had more meaning than the games on The Hustlers. Better editing too.

Here is the Reader's Digest version of this thread ... one shouldn't ask for an honest assessment of their recorded performance if they aren't willing to digest it and take something positive away. :)

...C-, your choices with ball in hand and your position play needs work. You also rush your shot with no apparent rhythm.. Rushing isn't always a crime if your in rhythm. you weren't. Keep playing you'll get better...

There needs to be a disclaimer or deletion of the thread, after 3 pages it turns out that the person posting the video has run over 100 balls in 14.1 and multiple racks in 9 and 10 ball. Going by the video, I think we all agree this is C level performance.

Is making yourself look worse than you are still false advertising? LOL

I could lose a sizable bet that the OP could not run 3 racks of straight pool,
based on the posted video. Let alone 122 LOL. Sorry.

It was definitely a ruse. Either you really are a C or a C-, or you are a high B to an A (if you ran 122). If the latter, what was the point of this whole thing? It left a bad taste in my mouth. The reason is we all had time invested in this, and it was a charade.

Now, if you are a good player and say I'm posting a video to disguise my speed, tell me what you think the video speed is, and what my actual speed is, at least that would be up front.

If I saw you play like you did in the video in person I'd take a week off to play you every day. And I'm a legit C+ player. You could make good money taking your act on the road;)

I know A players who don't have 100ball runs

Yes, I actually consider Straight Pool a better way to judge a person's true speed myself. I have seen really good 9-Ball players who could not run 15-20 at Straight Pool. It is also the best game to learn first. Many great 9-Ball players were Straight Pool players first, but not as easy the other way around.

Perhaps this thread is to determine if the OP has disguised his game enough to shark some lesser players into some money games if done in a pool hall where he isn't known?

Regardless the reason it has inspired me to do the same when I have time.

Seriously... C-

I admit it was careless, but C- is quite the stretch.

you posted a video that makes you like a C or C- player, then get offended when someone calls it C- level play?

you probably have your good and bad days, playing like a C when you're sloppy and perhaps a B sometimes when you concentrate, but this video doesn't show it.

Without even looking at the video, I would probably rate Jay's game b- to b. But that was a few years ago, and to be honest, we only played a few times. I will say that if he ran over 122 then he would definitely have to be in the b range at the very least. A long run like that does not happen by chance. But I suppose a b player could run 122 on forgiving pockets, with a little bit of luck.

Something to remember, straight pool is a totally different game with a different mindset. The ghost is a fickle game, if the balls don't lay well, then it can be impossible to run out and very frustrating.

I will say this Jay, I think you would be better served to post a video where you are not "goofing around", but rather one where you are serious. Any advise you get would be more pertinent and useful and it would be easier to spot areas were you need work. Post a straight pool video where you run 30 to 50, then your pattern and position play can be better critiqued.

Best,

Doug

So, to those in the know, would it be better to speak to a rating based on 8 ball, 9 ball, Straight Pool, a set vs. the ghost, or what?
It's hard for me to judge anyone's speed, I mean really the only measuring stick I have is me and I know that I only have to be better than the next person I play.
So, what's the best game and the best method to rate someone else's game?

Thanks Doug.
This was honestly an "assessed dumping " attempt

This is usually how I practice to keep my stroke in decent shape, and my wife is always asking why Im playing like a nit.

So I recorded it to get some answers on how noobish it really looked.

I figured that based on the title "based on THIS video" people would have caught on sooner.

The reason I was offended by the C- comment was that anyone who can runout is C, period.

As far as my true speed, I would honestly say B-/B on a normal day and B+ on a very good day.

My 122 was a freak thing and if is the only time I have evever even gotten close to that, its like i was on autopilot. My next highest run is a 78, and I USUALLY miss in the 40-50 range.

My apologies if anyone feels robbed of their time.
