Travel Time and Distance to Your Pool Hall

I am lucky in my old age as I have 3, yes, 3 pool halls within 15 minutes of the house! life is temporarily good! :grin-square:

Mine is about five minutes. The place is a huge restaurant and arcade with a lot of little kids running around. Have to make sure you go at the right time or you get screwed. On top of that, they make so much money from the food and games they don't take care of their tables.

About 25 minutes without traffic and maybe an average of 1.5 hours with, there are a couple of different ways to get there but none really avoid the gathering of cars in the roadway. Wish we had a bigger selection of rooms but the pool scene isn't very large out here, too many things to see and do outside since they consider it "Paradise".

I live 8 miles from a bowling alley that has two 4x8 tables in good condition. However, there's virtually no one available that's up for a good challenge match. I shoot against the ghost virtually every day of the year.

52 miles away (1 h 15 min) is Hard Times Billiards of Sacramento, a pool hall with many good players.

I'm trying to decide if the 104 mile round trip per day is worth the time and expense.

It's hard to place a price on quality.

So, fellow AZBers, how far away are you from your pool hall of choice?

Thanks,

John:)
It is easy for some of us to get spoiled who live near a room. I had one that was less then a mile once. I used to ride my bike there. Of course it closed, there is a medical complex there now. I will be moving in less then a year and I checked out the pool scene before deciding where I wanted to move. Pool has been an important part of my life and given a choice I want to be where there is some pool. I will always have a home table but I want to play a tournament now and then and have a place where I can go and match up now and then.

When I stay at my Gold Rush Country home it is 20 miles to Diamond,
25 miles to Hard Times, and 35 miles to The Jointed Cue.

From my Ranch near Lake Mead it is 65 miles to Las Vegas Cue Club.

From my Home in Hillsborough (SF Bay Area) it is 20 to 40 miles for Pool.

All the Gas Station Owners just Love Me.

I will be the first to say what everyone else is thinking, 3 houses??? Is that your Ferrari GTO also?? If it is and I can break and run a game of 3 ball on you may I drive it?? Seems to me you are solvent enough to build your own Pool Taj Mahal. :bow-down:

across the street, lol. 104 mile roudtrip??? I wouldn't do that for a tournament. but I like your dedication and willingness to drive. thats a lonely spot you live in. 8 miles for a table with noone to play with. that blows.

In IL less then a mile to the recently opened room in our town, 8 9' Diamonds. In AZ about
4 miles to the room I play in, 4 9' Olhausens and a 10' Olhausen snooker table. I also have the choice of two other rooms in AZ within a few miles. If I go to Pockets in Tucson it's about 25 miles. All in all not a bad situation.
Hey Bob T, where's the room with the 10' snooker ?

5 Miles, 15 minutes. I feel lucky to live so close to where I want to play.

Yes, 3 residences, but the Gold Country home is home these days as I
need to be near U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento for ongoing tests
and treatment for CLL Lymphoma (it has returned after 4 yrs. of remission).
Also in need of major back surgery (same hospital) from years of abusing
my body with numerous Drag Racing / Motorcycles Crashes and 3 Plane
Crashes (2 Service related, 1 Stunt Plane). As is obvious, I had No Plan of
living past age 30, but the Good Lord decided to punish me in more painful
ways than a swift death.
Yes, I am a former 1/2 owner of the GTO (sold in 1990 for $10.6m). I know,
I know ... it's worth $65m now ! I kept the '66 275 GTB4C and the '65 330 GTC,
but sold the '66 500 Superfast a couple years ago for $2.7m. As I mentioned
in another thread, I actually loaned that car to an employee for his 5th High
School Reunion in 1980. I was sweatin' bullets that time, but all ended well.
At 73, I just don't have the energy to operate a Pool Hall or I would build the
finest Billiard Establishment in Northern California.

people with limited space should consider used ball return tables stuffed into a corner somewhere

you can't play real games, but you'll get all the practice you need for a pittance

My good friend in Sacramento lives in a Senior Mobile Park
and has a Pristine GC-3 stuffed in a left corner. He's left
handed and able to hit balls straight down the table from
the head string and all along the right side. It ain't ideal,
but he can hit balls anytime he wants.

I am sorry to hear about your health issues. It sounds like your time here so far on planet earth has been a blast and you did real well for yourself, well done!!
As far as the price of the GTO going to the stratosphere, we are all blessed with perfect 20/20 vision when it comes to hindsight. I would be a billionaire if I knew what the future held.

exactly the point

it's also nice to be able to try your pool toys right away

for those who play often, the cost of the table always pays for itself, of course this is more for those with basements, storage rooms, etc......a table stuffed in your central living room corner would look horrible

I live 6 minutes from a decent pool hall with sub part equipment and no action. I live 30 minutes from a very good pool hall with lots of action. I drive the 30 minutes most days.

I live four miles from Billiards of Springfield. Sixteen GCs, both twos and fours.
Did I say Billiards of Springfield. I meant Billiards Sports Bar and Grill. Crap. :)

15 minute bike ride, 3-4 minute drive from Downlo in Chico, CA with 10 9' Diamond Pro's. Hour and a half from Hard Times in Sacramento, roughly the same to Jointed Cue. I would make that drive semi-regularly before I started going back to school. Now I'm lucky to make it down to Downlo twice a week.
