U.S. Open update

Two more entries since the money has been certified by Pat? WTF?

Too many nails in Barry's/the Open's coffin now for 128 @ $1000 a pop. Of course you'll pretty soon hear a puppet or 3 that, "You know we always get 50 players signing up the last week,". Why not stick a fork in it...it's dead. Any good the open had was pissed away by Barry over the last 10 years or so. It's a shame. Johnnyt

I dont expect 128 but i thought we'd see a flurry of entries. Of course some have to scare up a gf w a credit card.

And the KiTech tip did everything for me that I would expect a great tip to do.

Easy to get shape and not missing shots because of uncontrollable spin.

Kind of like going into a corner racing a car with the tires spinning too much, your going to wipe out but not with the KiTech.

On top of that I have a medium on my break cue because I like the feel of having some control of the cue ball. I put it on 9 months ago, never touched it since then an looks exactly how it did the first day.

Almost unbelievable. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone needs to try these that has been putting on these layered tips and realize how much easier it is to control the rock, getting more precise shape and missing less by not getting uncontrollable spin.

They even send you a sample package of the soft medium and hard.

Everyone needs to bury that stubborn know it all attitude for about 5 minutes and order some of these. Put on a KiTech tip correctly like they say and see the difference for yourself.

Amazing.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised..........

Need I say more... OK I will...........

Can't believe you havn't already ordered some. I think the sample pack is only about $15 dollars.I think you get 3 tips, maybe more, I don't even know for sure. If you like them like all the rest of us that have tried them, your saving about $25 a tip over some of the layer tip hype that's been going on for some time now.

I'm going on 7 months with this last tip I put on.

I let some of the players at this tourney I played in this weekend try my cue and they were amazed at how easy it was to move the cue ball around.

Order some today. You will be so glad you did.

Save so much money and play so much better.

If you still havn't ordered some by now you have already wasted some of your good playing time with a great tool we all need.

A tip that will last, hold it's shape and play great.

This is not a paid advertisement for KiTech tips.

Just trying to help some of my fellow pool players get over stupid for 5 minutes and order some KiTech tips and actually take one for a spin.:grin-square:

I second this.

Not going back to layered tips. Their hammerhead tip works great on my BK2 also.

By now you all know that the full 75K in added money has been raised and turned over to Pat Fleming. I'm just wondering why it got so quiet on here. When Barry screws up many are quick to criticize him, rightly so. But when he comes through and POSTS the added money no one gives him credit for that.

I have had my problems with Barry in the past, but I will give him credit for doing the right thing to save the U.S. Open. The 40th Annual is promising to be one of the best Opens yet, with an international field of heavyweights. I'm glad we could save this premier tournament and I'm proud that I can be part of that effort.

For those of you that like top flight pool on 9' tables, then this is the best tournament in the USA! In this new location it should be an exciting way to celebrate #40! Congrats to Barry for hanging in there through thick and thin and persevering. A few years ago I wanted to box him for real, but now I will shake his hand for being man enough to realize he had a problem and was willing to do the right thing to take care of it.

A murderer doesn't get off death row because he made the best macaroni necklace.

*For those who read too far into things. No, I am NOT comparing BB to a murderer. That would be an insult...to the murderer :p

Jay, I believe the reason Barry gets hammered on her when he does not do the right thing is (In part) to put the screws to him to do the right thing like the deal with the guy in China or wherever I don't remember. So from your post you want the AZB people to praise him for doing what he should have been doing all along? You don't get praised for doing the basics of what should be done anyway. Like paying on time and making sure the money is there. That's a basic requirement of holding a big tourney I would think. No if he goes above and beyond the basics then YES give him the credit he deserves.
He deserves credit for holding this event for 40 years through thick and thin but every year its his choice to hold it.

Credit for doing what he was forced to do to get sanctioning and players to actually show up after he stiffed so many.

Hoo. Ray.

I am thrilled he did it, but I'm not getting the streamers and confetti out yet.

A murderer? Really :scratchhead:

You are trying in desperation to turn the tables into "OH you called him a murderer" How about defending your position that we should be holding a parade for Barry because he did what he should have done in the first place and as it was mentioned because he was basically forced to do it. You know he should ne be fawned over because he did what most tournament organizers do as a set rule. Again he get crap on here and that forces him to do the right thing. Otherwise it would not get done as you in your own mind you know if you are honest with yourself.

Jay, really?

He finally did what he was supposed to be doing all these years.

There is no way a 6 day+ travel $1000 entry fee 128 or more tournament format can work for the last 10 years. Smaller high entry tournaments in sportbars with just a TD running the whole thing. No need for promoters or renting tables. Keep it simple...baby steps. Johnnyt

Quick announcement everyone.

I just went to the bank and DIDN'T rob the place.

Someone throw me a god damn parade!

I think it is great that Barry was able to make it go right. This certainly makes things way better for all the players who will be attending. It appeared the US Open might be in danger of ending with all of the difficulties in recent years. Now, for at least this year, it is sure to be a great success. I know if I was a top player I would be excited about playing in the tournament.

Well, I think he does deserve some thanks at this point. He is making it possible for a handful of players to have a decent payday, and for many other people to have an enjoyable week. In aggregate, of course, the players (or their backers) will spend more than the total prize fund -- an aggregate net loss. But that's endemic to the beast known as US pool tournaments. Given the current state of pro pool in the US, however, at least this event may have decent prize money:

1st -- $40,000
2nd -- 20,000
3rd -- 10,000
4th -- 7,000
5th-6th -- 5,000
7th-8th -- 4,000
9th-12th -- 3,000
13th-16th -- 2,750
17th-24th -- 2,500
25th-32nd -- 2,250
33rd-48th -- 2,000

Those are Barry's published amounts assuming 113 paid entrants at $1,000 each. If the field doesn't fill, I imagine some of the prizes will be reduced or eliminated.

So, despite Barry's long list of past transgressions and failures, I thank him for proceeding with a 40th event. So far, so good.

Jay, it's a thankless job. Some people will act as if someone pissed in their cereal even if it's someone's else cereal. Just bypass them. I'm glad that the tournament is proceeding even if I'm not playing. I plan to buy the pay view. Also, i would like to get a copy of your latest book too. Perhaps at Mr. Lucky's on one of these league nights.

For the record I believe in punishing people for wrong doing and giving them a pat on the back for doing the right thing. Barry deserved all the criticism he received in prior years, including from me. I prefer to acknowledge him for doing the right thing this year and hope it encourages him to continue to do this every year from here on in. This makes a lot more sense to me than continuing to dwell on the past. But to each their own.

This kind of reminds me of when someone screws up and later realizes it and says they are sorry. My feeling is that it's better to accept the apology than continuing to chastise them for messing up. Carry on! ;)
