Mike Dechaine: Are You Sold Yet?

Dechaine's Mosconi Cup record:

2011 -- 1-1 singles, 0-2 doubles, 0-1 teams, 1-4 total

2012 -- 0-2 singles, 1-2 doubles, 1-0 teams, 2-4 total

Both -- 1-3 singles, 1-4 doubles, 1-1 teams, 3-8 total

Another way to look at it (contribution to overall Cup scores) is to count a full point for each player in a singles win or loss, a half point for each player in a doubles win or loss, and one-fifth of a point for each player in a team win or loss. Doing that for Mike, we have 1.7 points on the winning side and 5.2 points on the losing side (winning percentage 25%).

But I think Mike is simply better now, physically and mentally, than he was then.

The Mike of today could comfortably spot the Mike of a few years ago the seven ball. These stats mean nothing.

funny thing if MIke is picked many probably wont support because Mike is the most loathed player in the modern game for being such a A-hole

but yes I like his game especially last 2 years he has improved his play and safety play especially, that with his break makes him formidable

last night was brutal neither played well, wasnt a good match

SVB loses again tho another long race 10 ball, apparently he cant lose those oh wait 21 isant long enough apparently has to be 100 lol cant wait for that to come out

Earl easily gives Mike the orange crush for being the most loathsome ahole in pool over the last 15 years!!! Period!!

how is mikes record in the mosconi......rather poor

The fact that Shane's record in MC is also not that good makes this a hypocritical argument for most people.

But...

If you really do want to put stock into their MC results then it is only fitting that you take notice of Johnny Archers record during the last MC that Mike played in, and notice that he went undefeated... meaning Mike is actually a good teammate in spite of the arguments that occurred between he and Johnny.

And if you are going to look at previous results then notice that the last year Mike played was the closets that team USA had came to a victory since 2006, only losing 11 to 9, and you can no longer say he is not a good teammate... if you want to put stock into MC results.

I agree, about a year ago I stated here on AZB that in 2 years he would no longer be the 2nd best rotation player in the U.S., he would be the best. I think that timeline is about right. We'll see in another year.

Hunter Lombardo is playing, but beyond that, I can't answer your question.

Thanks sjm. Do you or anyone else know if the Eastern State Championship is being live streamed this year? I missed the Shane Vs. Mike match, hoping to see them play again in this one.

Does anyone know if Tabby will be refereeing the MC this year?? Her legal issues now might stand in the way i guess. Gotta love her handling of the players and the crowds as well. I won't even go how easy on the eyes..oops, can't say that...gender equality and all. Mitch

Apparently Shane and Mike are not playing in that event. Someone said they are playing another exhibition match today somewhere in Connecticut.

I will admit that Mike is a great player. I will also admit that Mike has alienated me with his on air comments and attitude. I will not get into any details but I am not a fan but if he makes the MC Team I will support the team.

You realize the Championship is being played in Qatar?
.....gender equality is frowned on

Are Shane and Mike the only Americans playing in the W9B?

Shane, Mike, and Hunter are the only 3 from the USA currently on the list of players for Stage 2 (the main event). But 12 positions (out of the 128-player field) will be filled through qualifying tournaments. Whether anyone from the USA is playing in the qualifiers, I don't know, but I haven't heard of anyone.

Marc Vidal out of Denver played the qualifiers last year and lost the match to get in, but not sure if he's playing this year.

He is not there this year. Also no Americans in qualifiers . If I am mistaken Hunter was fighting it out in qualifiers last year but this year he is in main draw. Kudos to him
There is a Shaw but not Jayson- it is So Shaw
Majority in gruelling qualifiers are from Middle East followed by Filipinos

Really a shame that we're only sending three, but kudos to Mike for attending an overseas WPA Sanctioned major. As fellow poster Liakos has often noted, it's the kind of experience he needs to fully realize his incredible potential.

No idea what to expect of Mike in his first overseas WPA event, but good luck to him.

Maybe SVB is staking Mike. All pro players have their haters because they're too good=SVB and Earl because he can't control himself. IMO Mike could cut his haters down 80% if he would stop with the anal racking and sharking. I wish the next big tournament he's in, that EVERONE takes as long as him with the racking BS. When the tournament is over around 8AM the next day, maybe they will put a stop to it. Mike better not pull that racking BS out of the county...he will be on the next plane home. Johnnyt
