I was feeling pretty good last night on my way to Red Shoes. Last game of the session. 15-7, which was not too bad. Matched up against John Rawski, who routinely finishes in the top 3 or 4, along with Bobby Hunter, Tom Karabatsos, Ike Runnels and others of their ilk.

The first year I had Rawski 117-79 and he got me something like 125-118. Another time I was up 50-6 and he got me pretty good. Still, I had been practicing some of my PAT routines and using a Mark Wilson stroke exercise and figured I was hitting them pretty good.

When I got there Rawski was chatting with Rick Rastis against whom he had just run a 32 and a 73. I was thinking to myself, "I'm glad he got that out of his system". He told me he was planning to save his high run for me, since I was his last scheduled match of the session. It would be his last chance to get in the high run money, held by Ike Runnels ($300-122ball run); Bobby Hunter ($200-84 ball run), and Tom Karabatsos ($100-78 ball run). I feigned confidence telling him, "What I coincidence. That's just what I planned for you."

Cut to the chase( since I have to leave to catch a train now), I got to 26, scratched and he ran 86 leaving me in the chair for the last 45 minutes.

Take a look. Not necessarily great patterns, but he sure can shoot. He is more of a one pocket and bank player, but his last few years in the league have sharpened up his straight pool game.

Thanks for posting John's very enjoyable performance. A great pleasure to view.

I *do* admire the quality of John's stroking approach:
-- His very recommendable loooong aiming, totally concentrating with his tip frozen near the CB
-- Elegantly simplified minimal rehearsal strokes
-- His unhurried backswing

In all, his approach is nearly identical to that of Stan Shuffett as well-demonstrated in this very watchable, stimulating (and instructive) Vimeo upload of Stan's 105-ball run which justifiably exhilarated him at its conclusion:

I had exactly the same admiring feelings re: stroking/aiming merits (and creative patterns) while viewing John's 86-ball run and Stan's 105.

Saw the thread title, Dennis, and hoped that YOU were the ball runner. One of these days, my friend. Hope you're well.

Thanks, Stu, and everyone else.

Before I run that many, I got to get my mind right, as they said in Cool Hand Luke.

I am basically too undisciplined, and I like to move fast, without spending too much time looking at the table, whether it makes sense or not. I guess I must imagine that the right pattern, speed, execution, will come to me by divine inspiration or something.

I do enjoy playing at that speed, but must accept the results.
