I really like this idea. I think the Fargo Ratings could be the wave of the future for pool at all levels. Nice to see it being embraced by some folks in the industry. I know it's kind of a long shot(due to competing interests), but I think it's the best chance pool has for a universal rating system.

Remember the controversy about the arbitrary seeding of the "World 14.1"? Even though 14.1 is not used in calculating Fargo ratings, perhaps Dragon should use it anyway. US Open should use it for seeding also.

Looking at the FargoRate top 100 world wide list reminds me of something John McEnroe once said.

McEnroe said it's very difficult to rise from the number 100 player in tennis to the number 10 player. And it's equally hard to rise from number 10 to number 1.

It seems a similar situation seems to exist in pool:

There are 43 points separating #100 and #10 on the FargoRate list.

There are 36 points separating #10 and #1

Mike did use Fargo ratings for a 14.1 league at Fargo Billiards. He can correct me if I am wrong, but I think he used are regular rating and then kept that rating separate. Worked good for us as none of us were winning 100-0.

I don't know his opinion on it's effectiveness.

Based on this announcement! look at the "top" names that will be denied using this tool. when it comes time it will be done based on who has cash in hand in my opinion. Not hating, just stating the obvious. The top players will scream as usual and cry and the system will go out the window as usual.

I like this idea of using FargoRate for various tournaments.

However, in the case of the Bigfoot tournament, I don't think it will make any difference in the field. From what I've seen following this tournament on AZ and in the AZ action room since its inception, the biggest hurdle is for Jay getting players to actually accept his invitation. Then, even the ones that accept, a portion of them back out for whatever reason. That's why the field is constantly in flux, even after Jay posts the players that are "confirmed".
