Can anyone suggest a beginner pool cue for my son in law for Christmas.Plain wood,no glitter, jointed, sneaky pete,a straight piece of wood, about 125.00? Thanks in advance guys.

I can only hope he's even worth that much. I gave my uncle (aunt's husband) a nice $160ish cue just off of GP cause he mentioned going out to play a few times, don't think he's played since i gave it to him.
There was another thread started a little while back, maybe someone can link it or you find it where someone was asking the same question and there was some great suggestions in it.

Without a doubt Schmelke.A plain, bocote or purple heart true sneaky. If he's a true beginner order an elk master tip.

I had a Players cue for about 10 years. I just sent it to my Nephew to give to his son. I is still straight and has held up well. After I got my Shurtz I didn't use it much anyway.

I think you can find a decent player for $50-80 with the low me imports of the bigge brands....like Vikings Valhalla and McDermott Star line.

But, for that price range I'd go Schmelke sneaky.

Do yourself a giant favor and don't buy any sneaky pete that doesn't have a joint collar.

Allot of collarless joints have issue with the wood splitting at the joint.
Regardless if its the shaft or the butt the joint needs to be strengthened or reinforced .

+1 to silvercue for suggesting http://schmelkecue.com/

Holy crap! That's exactly what my situation has been.

I used a Players sneaky for a long time until I was given a Shurtz. Now it's my main cue. :) The only difference is my nephews ain't getting the Players cue.

EDIT: Pic or it didn't happen.

TX Poolnut - my Shurtz is an 05. Since I live close to Bob and Jack's shop I get my work done there too. Nice folks.

I have a Players cue and I like it a lot. I picked mine out in person and got the one with the best looking shaft and a good forward balance. I really want a custom cue, but this one gets the job done while I'm looking into what to get next.
