Why are some cue makers so rude and have bad attitudes?

shaft

No thanks to a shaft from them. By the way, I do not ask cue makers to lower their asking prices.

Straight up, we don't read your mind.
In your thread looking for a 3/8 x 10 pin flat face wood to wood shaft you didn't say you wanted it in 12.3 mm.
If you would of said that in your opening description of what you wanted , this thread wouldn't exist.
And why couldn't of you bent a little and offered 15 to 20 bucks extra for the extra effort to make you happy by turning down the shaft to 12.3 MM ?

In all honesty, you mean that you cant find a 3/8x 10 pin flat faced shaft without all this drama.

What is wrong with buying one from Schmelke for 65 bucks and get a warranty on the shaft ??????

.

A cue maker on here offered to make me a shaft for a certain price (does the price matter?), and I kindly requested if he would make the shaft 12.3mm for me.

He then gets really nasty with me (accusing me of asking him to "bend over backwords for me").

I do not understand what the big deal is to make a request like that.

If a cue maker does not like the request that you are asking for, then I am sure there are much nicer ways to reply to that person.

He is not the 1st cue maker that I felt was rude and had a bad attitude (it has happened to me many times through email and over the phone in the past, but maybe I am just crazy in the way I get bothered too easily).

I just do not understand how these cue makers (with such bad attitudes) stay in business.

This is what I've been saying on here before.
When a cue maker acts like I should be kissing his ass or some
version of that.....I'm gone......Usually much faster than I can even
hang up the dang phone.

So many cue makers are such primadonnas and want/need to
have their asses kissed at every step of the way, then, this is
the best part, they all act tough and there seems to be this thing
with cue makers about finding it cool to be short with you on the
phone or via email.

Usually very dry responses, this, for whatever reason is considered
to be cool and totally awesome with so many cue makers.

It's refreshing when you get a cue maker on the phone who can
speak and write a coherent sentence AND is communicative.
This makes me come back for more again and again.

The rest of them I could care less about.

They're worse than nothing in my book and can have someone
other than me kissing their ass.

My advice; just stop dealing with the guy and go elsewhere.

This is one other reason it's always best to ask for just a regular
joint. Nothing specialized that doesn't do anything anyway other
than the maker gets a guaranteed ass kissing later when something
happens and only he can help you.

Just get a regular cue with one of the major joints and you'll never
have any problems.

My thoughts...

We live in a rude and impatient world. I dealt with Meucci once and I won't be back .
I have dealt with Pat Diviney on several occasions and I will be back. His work and honesty and principals are first rate to the point I see no reason to go to another cue maker.

When I am paying for some thing to be made the way I want it I expect to be greeted with a friendly and professional attitude. If not, I move on right away and don't come back. I believe there are probably several friendly and polite cue makers out there and a bit of shopping will lead you to one.

I also try not to take up their time with lengthy phone calls as they can't work and produce if on the phone all day. I like sending an e-mail with what ever specs I want a shaft or cue built to, then after the cue maker looks it over I want a short phone call or text to confirm every thing.

Custom cues and shafts remind me of custom gun work. If I rush the guy I may not be as happy in the end.

I cant believe the amount of time spent complaining about courtesy in this thread. Its a 50$ shaft.. If he doesn't wanna do it move on. So many people getting offended for nothing over the internet. Im sure your local cue shop has a 50$ shaft and will turn it down for an additional 20$. Good luck finding a 12.3mm for 50$ Price is definitely relevant in your situation.

50 dollar shaft, hmm..What about a nice "Players" shaft? As far as I know, that is the only way to get a new brand name shaft for 50 dollars. You could probably get it with the required joint as well. But custom?! NO WAY.

How could any cuemaker make you a shaft for that price WITH SHIPPING and survive? They'd have to whittle down a broomstick or something, the parts alone (and wear and tear) probably cost that much. They'd be losing money.

Here are some on Ebay:

If I were a cue maker and I didn't want to make a shaft for 50 bucks I wouldn't respond to the OP's request.

Strange...I thought any transaction where you don't get the shaft is a good one.

Big up's to Straightpool for taking the time to lay it out. You can get a shaft for around $50... just not a 'made to order' custom tapered shaft and OP should know that.

All this bad, mean cue maker crap is utter nonsense.

-Kat,

Well, one did . ONE.
Then he asked him for his resume ( which is fine ) then he asked him to get it down to 12.3MM.
Then the maker became rude and had bad attitude .
For offering a new shaft for $50 and getting pissed off after he was asked to get it down to 12.3MM.

'could care less about' means that you care about it.

Since I no longer make cases, Im going to say some shit.

This is typical of some of the folks on AZB. When I was still making cases, I got to play 400 questions with all of the tire kickers on here. Most wanting a case like other guys make. If I would have had the sense to do it at the time, I would have redirected them instead of wasting my time.
In this situation, the person who agreed to make the shaft was likely trying to do it as a favor more than a money making effort eg the price. So while he could have handled it better, I fully understand his frustration. Try to do something nice for someone, and the person has the fooking balls to come on here and ***** about it because it isnt Burger King and he couldnt have it his way.

Sorry to the OP, but wanting a shaft for 50 just shows you either cant afford more right now, or you are clueless as to the market value of cue shafts. Schmelke is your most affordable option if youre on a budget. Otherwise, learn what things cost and pony up to have whatever maker you fancy, make you a shaft.

Anybody disagree..... Fook ya, I no longer care.......

Still waiting for my case!

Need something for my fancy gear.

How many times do I need to repeat myself, for you guys to understand? I never asked for a new shaft for $50. The guy offered to make me a shaft for $50, and I asked if he could make it 12.3mm for me. Instead of nicely telling me that it would not be worth his time and effort to do that for me (and tell me how much extra I would need to pay to have him do that), he gets a really bad attitude about it and in my opinion, his PM reply was pretty nasty. I did not create this thread to talk about shaft pricing, and it should not matter about the price. My point was that people should be nice, and have a good attitude. I would like to add that I do not care how good the deal is on the item that I am being offered. If the person is not going to be nice and friendly, then I do not want to deal with that person. People need to learn to have a better attitude. Don't get nasty with a person if you do not like their request. Just be nice, or just do not reply back at all.

The only reason I asked the cue maker that question, is because I thought that it would be easy for him to do that request for me. He told me that he could make me a shaft, so I thought it was no big deal to tell him what I liked in the mm. The only point that I was trying to make is that he could have been nice about the way he replied back. The price really should not matter. He did in fact make the offer to me though. I just did not like the way he acted toward me. If you are going to make someone an offer, just be nice about it (even if the person requests you to do something extra to the item that you are offering). No need to get nasty with that person.

You have gone out of your way to explain how mean and nasty it was.

All we have seen is something about "bending over backwards."

IF you own any weapons, please turn them in to the local Law Enforcement, we seen what happened in San Bernandino last week when a couple of people got so easily offended. Is this your MANIFESTO in the making?

You have been told over and over to move on but you still come back with this WHINE?

Want some CHEESE? The Gubment gives it away.

Smile, get over it and smile some more, enjoy life to its fullest, Good Day.

I will say this again. I was not asking for a new shaft for $50 in my WTB ad. I was only asking for something decent, and I really do not care how old or used up it is. I should have added to my WTB thread, and noted that I do not want anything new. I prefer a nice very used up shaft actually. Another thing, is that if I have trouble getting a $100 out of a nice high quality custom cue (which I have many times in very recent times), then why is $50 just for a shaft out of the question?

Um, well, to be honest, I am scared to death of any type of weapons (even household knives that are sharp enough to cut my finger), and I would never do anything to try to hurt anyone (no matter how upset I get). I just come on here, and cry about it in the NPR section, lol. I admit, that I have mental issues, but I am not a threat to society. I am nice and friendly to everyone I meet, and if anyone says or does anything that bothers me, I just cry about it on the inside (and on the forum, lol). I have come to understand that people do not like whiners though. I just wish there were not so many people with bad attitudes in this world. I think that the less people with bad attitudes there were, the better this world would be. And please forgive me bad working, or improper spelling everyone. Thanks.
