You-tube ripping us off must read

crazy yes...

but i work in marketing i aknowledge that there is potential for a lot of money to be made for these players who i care greatly for . Pool is my favorite sport in the world, i just wish it was yours as well

If there was a lot of money to be made from broadcasting pool matches don't you think you would see it on TV? It sounds to me like the one time pool players really had a chance to make some money and take the sport more mainstream was when RJR (Camel) was going to sponsor the tour but the players decided to follow a different promoter who"s name I don't recall but he steered the players in a bad direction and in the end he was the only one to profit. That case was the players making bad decisions for themselves. Until you can get all the players to agree on something the sport will not change.

Most of these guys on stream play so far below true "world class" speed that they should be counting their lucky stars to even have a chance at competing for prize money.

Do you have any idea how many people in the world play basketball or soccer at the speed Danny Smith or Chip Compton plays pool at, without ever making a dime or even having the opportunity to do so?

Being a big fish in a very small pond doesn't make a person a hot commodity.

Since all the streaming geniuses are here in one place - can one of you tell me how to get YouTube from muting or blocking my stream cause of background music from the jukebox? Do I need to host on my own platform or is there a way to fight it? The song already got paid for when it played on the jukebox.

No way to fight it unless you pay for the song rights via ascap, bmi etc.
And these agencies do not play nice. I've seen them shut down an entire sports bar because the owners simply had unauthorized album art on the walls. The copyright laws are well established and can be enforced with the greatest of ease, and they know this.

To their defense, they have a contract with the artists to track every single use of their songs, no matter how obscure, and to track every single time the song gets played in public, no matter where it may happen. They even send spies into bars and restaurants, to see if they are playing licensed music for their customers without having paid for the rights to do so. (License fees based on the business capacity) On the internet, there are actually a fleet of "bots" constantly searching and " listening" to songs, looking for violators 24/7.

Formerly in the music industry, I've been a member of ascap for a dozen or so years.

We don't use licensed music on ABR because the License fees are based in part on any revenue generated by its use, potential revenue generated, and even third party revenue generated. Its actually an accounting nightmare, because if I happen to mention any commercial entity on the show, the licensing agencies consider that to be a " commercial" with a specific monetary value no matter if I got paid for it or not. They will then add that "commercial " to the list of money I generated and expect me to pay them a percentage of money i didn't actually receive.
If you place a link to my show on your website, then you are in theory generating income from our show as well and they want a piece of that income too. They are literally Nazis about the whole mess so I'm not playing that game. There is plenty of non communist music out there to use.

Totally unrelated to this post. You've missed the entire point.

You've totally missed the point again. If you had read the post, it states the "POTENTIAL", and not what they currently lose. Even though THEY ARE.

Again missed the point. You're taking this to a negative level, which is not the intention of this post. We're supposed to be building up the players of the sport and getting them compensation for their art/talent. I'm in total agreement and understanding that YouTube gives the pool industry essence and meaning, but the players are doing this for free, which is extremely unfair.

keep dreaming buddy, the only people that would pay to watch pool is other pool players.

Even then, we're talking about a small percentage of players that actually give enough of a shit to watch pool on the internet.

And guess what. Pool players are cheap. They aren't going to pay to watch one of their peers do what they do everyday.

but wouldnt it be better if the players got paid? i think you are taking my intentions wrong . i have the players in mind when i say this. the nfl footage is copywritten , i wonder why thAT is ? ugh ...missing the point.

here is the point .... only speaking of the full link video matches.... not the short personal videos

there is a site up it will be like youtube except it will be for
Pool Only.

for the full matches.
that is what im talking about

With the rare exception, if you're playing pool to make money it's time to re-examine your future.

So you just inadvertently disrespected every pool player on earth with that comment. That their art and talent is worth nothing? Are you in the right forum?

He's just a realist. Pool players already make what the market will bare.

You're right Erica! YouTube should be the teaser/trailer platform... YouTube is great for pool, it's just detrimental financially for the players. Players always getting the last piece of the action. It took many many years to get the players comfortable being recorded. The next 5 should be how to get money in their pockets for their hard work, talent, and art on the pool table. Until then, I'll keep up the good fight!

You seem to think that there's some big pool of money out there that the players are not getting a piece of.

The only revenue pool players will make off youtube would be from other pool players. the general public is entirely uninterested in watching pool.

crash course for pool players.....

How many views does it take to make money on YouTube?

<very big snip>
you are the ones with the skills !

the railbirds dont want to see you make it!

Pool players are not the ones with rights to the videos that you are talking about.

btw, railbirds are pool players too, stop trying to be divisive.

This really is a non-starter. If pool streamers can barely scratch out a living, how do you think it's possible for them to enter into royalty contracts with the players on their streams.

If what you suggested happened, there just wouldn't be pool on youtube. Streamers would go find another job.

I can't believe some of you guys. Erica is just looking out for the benefit of pool players, and has come up with one of the best ideas in a long while. I haven't seen something this game changing since the jump cue was invented.

Erica,

I would love to make a contribution to your cause. What's your paypal?

You forgot your sarcastic font!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as money is concerned it equates to about $5 per 1,000 views. I have well over a million views on YouTube so that equals about $5,000 in ad revenue from them but guess what, most of my videos have background music in it so I can't make money off of them. I would literally have to mute the audio on videos to make money off of them.

Lenny, what do you think about doing commentary over muted videos if you had to?

Suggest focusing your energy on bigger, better ideas that make the players money, spread the word, make you some money, and get this great game to where it should be. Think bigger, think current. USE the large Internet sites/apps as a platform, don't fight against it, that's for sure a lost battle.

As far as Youtube specifically, it's absolutely AWESOME for pool. I just got a bunch of new players playing based on the fact that I can show them a Florian Kohler video and then one of Efren and then one of Shane on my phone Youtube app. It's working, and working well. Find another way.

My 2 cents.

Just realized that I shouldn't give out greenies anymore. I just gave a guy with 5 posts a greenie and it topped him right up.

Worst. Thread. Ever. Taking a fork to the eye would have been less painful !!

craZyErica ... what a screen name ... lol ... craZy is why we love ya!

About 3-4 years ago Youtube sent me a check for $34.95. Now, it wasn't worth the bullshit I had to go through to monetize my video - but I did get paid. I don't have many matches posted on Youtube - mostly just instructional stuff and straight pool runs from Derby City mixed in with a couple of old ESPN matches - but, Erica, if you tell me where the players can make a little something-something from those videos - I'll post them there and take them off of Youtube immediately.

Hey David... I the midst of replying yesterday, if you are going to move the videos over to the new billiardtube, you get free webhosting for deadstrokeuniversity.com also. And we can then combine your website with your videos resulting in your brand getting 100% of the traffic versus you having to resort to diverting your traffic to YouTube. You also get access to 1000 users who've registered over the 10 sites that currently operate on the network. I'm not sure if you pay for web hosting and website maintenance, but if you do, then that payment goes away. I look forward to help you out get 100% credit for your work.. I suggest to turn your YouTube channel into partial teaser videos which divert the traffic back to your website. That is the 'proper' way to utilize the internet to your advantage, search engine results, and alexa rank.

Very cool of you to suggest this. A little bit at a time will enable us in the future to break the cycle of PPV's for live broadcasts, and they can all be free to the public.

Goldy.

Focus your energy on bigger, better ideas you tell Erica. That won't work because this effort crazyerica is going for really doesn't take any energy --just host the pool videos on her site and watch the money roll in.

Now sitting down with a pool player, teaching him how to create his own YouTube channel and upload all of his videos to his own channel. And keep up on it on a weekly basis. Market it on Facebook or where ever. That would take some energy to do it for say the top 100 players in the world.

HUH? WE have 10,000 regular watchers of live streams. What are you talking about?

Whats very cool Supergreenman, unbeknownst to you. Since we've cornered all web traffic to 1 place to produce Video On Demand and Live Streams, we have a 100% accurate analytic report which has immensely helped us grow away from free streaming and on-demand services, which splits and diverts traffic, lowers our search engine power, and alex ranks on the internet. We want pool to be mainstream without a middle person as the vehicle to get it accomplished. We HAD youtube and ustream in the past when the technology and know-how was unobtainable. Today, this is not the case. With our CDN, we can host 30k videos with 30TB of bandwidth per month for a reasonable price.

Then how come your chat video you posted last night just spinned trying to find your server? And I checked, all other sites I went to worked just fine. Even YouTube.
