Are you a banger, or are you a serious player?

serious banger

I like to consider myself a serious banger and
a low level player because i can't do either of
them very well. Hopefully one day I'll make it
to pro level banger and a serious player.
Keep hit um hard.

Recreational D Player

I wouldn't call myself a banger
A nicer way to put it is I am a recreational player
I only play when I drink
I don't bang them cos they are bar boxes
I probably watch more than I play now

Darn...

I consider my self a serious player, but when I shoot I often look like a banger.

Maybe having fun playing pool is more important to me then winning.

Must be the freedom of retirement and old age thing,

I think I am probably a banger as I don't play real good position at this point. I am potting some balls though. I cannot consistently run a rack of even just fifteen balls yet let alone in order. My idea of a serious pool player though is very high level. For example, I watched the Mosconi cup last week and the shots did not seem to difficult from the cue position in most cases. The sportscasters seemed to make a big deal over some thin cut shots that an amateur could have potted. There were some amazing shots in that tournament as well though. when I think of serious players I think of people who have the skills of professionals people like Ralph Greenleaf, Willie Mosconi or even Ronnie O'Sullivan skill level even though his game is snooker. I think of professional I think of the greats in this industry.

Well, I'm a pool player with a non-serious girlfriend so I'm a serious player who bangs.

I Must be a banger, (ppl compliment me on my Breaks)
Besides, a few here have told me I was one. :p

...
I am thinking that I was never really a player, because I never wanted to do any of the boring drills (and that is why I never really surpassed strong B, or weak A level status), and I just wanted to shoot.

....

For me a banger is more about lack of knowledge and low skill level, than practice habits. Shooting every shot hard with no knowledge or care about the next shot is how bangers play.

I would never consider a strong B or weak A, a banger.

To me everyone who doesn't study the game to improve, work on fundamentals, play in different settings (league, tournament, cash, etc), and actually take the game seriously = a banger. Which is fine, right? Some people want to play simply to have fun and not ever take it very seriously and have improvement goals. "Banger" or not, as long as they're playing pool that's a good thing.

Thing is the banger usually becomes insuferable
Now that im regularly destroying the one im play with
Hes gotten more ridiculous
Not to drag all that back up( ive got a thread of my own for this ridiculous person)

Hes now near before every shot scuffing up the tip, like most chalk the tip before each shot,
Hes literally sciving it with a beer bottle cap, several times a game

One of these days im going to turn his world on his head with info, but the free beer keeps me smiling and my mouth shut
But imay not be able to hold it in for much longer

Not a banger but not a serious player. A B by most standards but can play like an A when I catch a gear

Banger Extraordinaire here, I hit the balls hard and use many rails when possible. The tip I use is very hard and I like to hear the "ping" it makes when struck, Ariel Carmeli said that he's never seen anyone hit the balls as hard as I do when testing out a cue and I told him "they all feel the same when you hit them softly". Then again that was in 1996 when I didn't know my ass from a hole in the ground ha ha.

Trying to work my way up to banger status. Maybe with a lot of blood, sweat, and beers i can be a player.

Interesting how many of the 'bangers' where I play are getting more interested in the actual 'game' and turning into more serious bangers.

-Kat,

I've got no issue with either, if you just like to shoot kool
If you like to learn and get better great

Just dont spout a bunch of bs thats right out of your ass, when your terrible and make no attempts to get better

don't get discouraged, its takes a minimum of several years to reach banger status....sure some have done it quicker, but they started young, or their dad owned a pool hall...........

Lol, you guys are funny as hell. I was never a banger in the literal sense (hitting every shot as hard as possible , with no care about getting shape on the next ball), but I did manage to get very good by just shooting and learning by just watching the better players. I never really liked doing drills though, and just loved to toss the balls out there and shoot them out. My strongest point has always been my offensive game. Doing drills would have really helped my defensive game, and helped me to win more. I just thought that maybe a banger was a player that did not really take the game too seriously. Like the guys you see with the complete package (playing cue, jump cue, and break cue). You know they are serious about their game if they have the complete cue package and are out competing as much as possible .
