Just roughly...and I know in reality it's infinite, but how many variables to a cut shot to a corner with inside english?
5 speeds x 5 english ranges x 5 aiming points =125 variations to just one shot

Just being curious. Thoughts...

I don't think it's infinite - we don't calibrate that finely. I think your guesses are pretty close to reality for how most players really do things.

But I don't know what "aiming points" are - do you mean where to hit the CB or the OB?

You may be off on the number of variables, though, I think it could be more for one shot.
as a control group this is a nice number to work with and explore.

5 speeds? I think you would like to control the travel of the cue ball to within half a diamond with a maximum travel of about 12 diamonds for a four-cushion shot to get to the other end of the table. That would be 24 different speeds. Maybe more precision on the shorter distances and less on the longer, but still around 20 or so different speeds.

If you don't play position with that precision, then fewer.
