Real Pool Reality Show crowdfunding

Can you see the difference in the quality of something simple - such as the interviews JCIN/CSI did a couple of years ago compared to the interviews that someone linked to Jimmy's YouTube page.

Without a doubt. I'll give Murnak the credit that his video quality has improved over the years.

Not really sure where you are going with this. I think this is something others should judge for themselves. I did a lot of these to help the players.. I hope it helped them. I also got the only interview with Ginky.

Not sure where I am going with this --- this is Sesame Street 101. Look at these two things and tell me what is different.

Maybe there are some cross marketing opportunities that could be worth exploring. Such as someone purchasing a $10 stream can get a $10 discount on an instructional video?

Jim,

Let me preface this post, by admitting that I did not read this entire thread.

I have an idea for your show:

Do you recall when Texas Hold'em first gained popularity on television? The prize pool that was televised, was not the value of the actual prize pool. To build interest in the show, the producers used deception, and showed inflated figures. This led everyone to believe that they could make a million dollars, playing poker. It certainly didn't take long for Texas Hold'em to take off.

Maybe you could do the same thing... The players pay their entry, and play the tournament, as you have described. Though, you make it seem as though they are playing for very high stakes. And, you make it seem as though these tournaments are common, as if it would be easy to make a fortune.

I believe this could work. Look at what made The Color of Money such a hit. It was the idea that money could be made easily, playing this game. That movie was pure fantasy, but it had a huge impact on the game. You could make this reality show, with only a portion of it fantasy, and potentially have the same impact.

Interesting idea. Everyone playing has an azbilliards player link that says what their lifetime earnings are in tournaments. Maybe we can value the teams with that and say something like, "this team has a combined prize fund of $350,000 and they are playing a team with a combined prize fund of $280,000." We want to keep everything real and completely transparent when it comes to that stuff. But there are probably ways to value things that can raise eyebrows.

There has been some good suggestions on this thread for the project, as well as constructive critiquing on the concept.

Instead of replying to those who provided good thoughts and support, Jim has decided to put more emphasis on replying to the Negative Nellies and Debbie Doubters. I guess, in a way, this thread with all its worts and bumps has brought a spotlight to the project as a whole.

Good luck with the project.

I appreciate the thought but I feel like you're taking my criticism as fear of competition. lol besides being a totally different market, neither market is worth worrying about. If I relied on pool video profits for anything more than buying sneakers money, I'd be in a world of hurt.

I wish you guys the best of luck which is good. You'll need all the luck you can get.

Or how about if someone purchases an instructional video, they get $10 off a stream.

Bet that doesn't sound as good to you. :)

I do wish that it was more about positive things, but I dislike the tact that tries to keep others from helping. But the fact is, if there wasn't an argument for a week, this thread would have been gone a while ago. So more people are buying video streams and donating extra to see the game go bigger. So thanks haters. You do wonders for projects. Thanks JAM for all of your thoughts.

Yep, it's really picking up steam! 3% funded!

If you are not interested in supporting the show or the people in it, can you please stop posting in this thread. Find something you do believe in and focus on that.

....As far as the idea of the show, it is designed to try to get money flowing to pool players, either small amounts or larger amounts. As long as they are willing to do the show, it will have some life. The participants in the show will get a playlist of all the videos. They can offer them to their friends and future fans and will get 80% of the revenue....

....Let's look at this in a completely optimistic light. The Hustlers actually had 1,000,000 viewers on one of the shows as far as I understand. Well, If one percent of those people 10,000 pre bought the videos to this game, the winning team of the match would get $64,000 and the players would each get $8000. The losing team would get $16,000, and each player would get $2000 for a 2 hour game....

Jim

i need some Cliff Notes, please -

80% of the the presales goes to the players?
OR 80% goes to the winning team, and balance 20% goes to the losers?
AND why are the players getting 80%-100% (i'm assuming that's NET $, cause otherwise you'd have to fund costs o-o-p.)

don't stakehorses pull 30%-60%?

PL <---- i've still got Nathan's keys to BB.
