talking about crowd

In between games you can see what creates this huge interest that US Pool lacks, it's called gambling.

There is an old book called BILLIARDS: Hustlers and Heroes, Legends and Lies, and the Search for Higher Truth on the Green Felt by John Grissim, he had made a trip to Manila IIRC, and had some great stories and pictures.

Back in those days, they kept bets straight with a stick of chalk right on the table.
I have that book but I haven't looked at it since I originally bought it.

I have a buddy who grew up in the Philippines. He doesn't play pool but one day we were talking about gambling. He said in the Philippines, they gamble on everything. Even little kids playing pickup basketball bet something. The more you have, the more you bet. Gambling is very much ingrained in their culture.

many years ago I was in Puerto la cruz Venezuela playing $$$ 8 ball and to my
surprise the guy was writing our bet on the table cloth with chalk for every game. first time I had seen that. we had about 20 of the locals gathered around the table watching our game and rooting for me! I think they were tired of getting their butts kicked by this guy.the last game we played I wrote down the bet on the table for 10,000 bolivars (little over $100), he lost and then would not pay....that is another story for another day.;)
