Dennis vs. SVB Full Story- Truth From the Inside

There was no Ko backer. He bailed before the match.

French posted he didnt bet anything in the middle and Ko didnt have a backer so that kind of narrows things down. The whole deal is straight rotten from top to bottom. People got scammed who bought the stream based on it being a 20k gambling match.

Really who told you that do we have record of that

The Ko brothers have their translator (Mandy?) looking out for them when they're here in the States. Highly doubt they were taken advantage of like Dennis seems to have been.

Mandy lives here in the States; maybe she can shed some light on the goings on in New York?

ONLY person I trust in a pool game is ME!
Now there's a guy with good sense!

Oh ya that's reassuring just who is she , however the last person I would worry about is Ko I would believe if anything he was taken advantage of , welcome to America where you can't trust your neighbor

Written English or spoken only? I've known people born elsewhere who speak English quite well but cannot read much at all.

Gideon
My guess from what others have said is he may not be very literate in English. Which makes French's actions even more egregious if, as Danny is saying, that French told him it was for DVD royalties only. Which if true means not only did French construct an absurd contract, but then he lied to Dennis about it knowing Dennis couldn't read it.

Dennis is saying right now on the ABR stream that he doesn't read English well and couldn't understand the contract, so he trusted what French was telling him about the contract being a 10 year royalty split agreement. French also asked if he could stake Dennis in money games, and Dennis said sure.

Obviously the contract says different.

That's sad but true fact , Iv never trusted any of these matches TAR included
Just seems to have a WWE smell to them

Dennis family has a better chance of moving to Mars than to the U.S. Getting a visa to come here from the PI is brutal for a top player no way a whole family just hops on a plane and moves in next door to the Frenchies. Just one more BS statement in a long line of them.

exactly!!! not easy to get a visa from asian to come here...espcially philippine

So it seems as if both Ko and French knew there was no money in the middle while the PPV buyers and Dennis did not.

So, was Ko mailing it in?

I have heard different things. The number that keeps coming up is $2500. Whether thats per man or total I don't know. I havent really dug into it as it doesnt really matter to me. What matters is that nowhere near 20K was in the middle and the people who chopped the stream were content to let people think there was.

Dennis is saying he just found out the day of the match, when Mandy came to him and apologized that Ko only had only raised $2500 because his backers quit on him. Dennis said ok, that was fine, he just wanted to play.

The right way to handle this would be to either refund, or offer some other sort of compensation to those who were lied to. When you buy an item that is inaccurately described in a significant way, you have a right to a refund (at least in most countries). While it doesnt' matter to me wether someone is playing for a million or 2000 bucks, it does to a lot of people. Obviously it's an important factor if you are betting on the game, for one.

I just don't understand how people keep getting away with stupid crap like this in pool over and over. And nobody ever seems to learn from their past mistakes. Oh, here a rich guy who likes pool! He has come to save the day. Oh, wait he ran away with everyones money...Repeat 100 times.

so dennis said on the radio that there was no 50gs put up
shane got money for appearance and dennis was getting cut of stream and door

100g was just to promote it

WOWzer

Not exactly what he said...

What he said was that he wasn't sure about 50K but that French told him that Shane and Mars wanted to put up 50 or 100K and he didn't really want to, so he offered Shane10K show up money. (probably because he didn't want to post 50K). and that he would do what DO wanted as far as compensating him.

Who's to say that French wasn't just trying to convince DO that there wasn't 50K being bet so that he could get out of giving him 25K if he won?

And while he wasn't planning on ever posting the 50K, he was hoping the 10K promise would get Shane there and playing.

REally who's to say ANYTHING with this French guy, he appears to be as unscrupulous as you can get...

After listening to the whole Dennis interview, things are looking pretty bad.

1) The Steinway match was for $5000 in the middle, since Ko could only raise $2500.
2) French lied to Dennis saying that the contract was only for DVD sales, so Dennis just signed it trusting him.
3) Dennis wanted to break off his pool relationship with French after the Ko match, because French brought up signing the Ko brothers right after the match, and it made everyone look bad. Also, because every time French was in the pool rooms he was causing trouble and getting people mad at Dennis.
4) Dennis thinks Shane and Mars were willing to bet the 50k, Dennis says that French sent Shane a talent fee of 10k after the Mosconi Cup to play the Carom Room match, plus an agreement for 5k of the door monies collected.
5) Dennis told French that if he also gets 10k before the match, he would play it too. Then Dennis would also get cuts from the Stream and maybe door money, but I'm not sure about the amounts.

Conclusion: French is fine with setting up they matches as paid exhibitions, with false advertising on the amount in the middle being played for.

An all around F'd up situation. I hope things work out for Dennis. The whole 10k check to SVB is quite a shocker, so I'm really not sure what to make of it, but that's what Dennis said.....

I dont doubt thats what he was told. I do doubt Mars would of been anywhere near something like that and I don't see Shane playing a race to 160 for a couple grand show up money. Like his contract I suspect something is being lost in translation.
