Dennis vs. SVB Full Story- Truth From the Inside

After listening to the whole Dennis interview, things are looking pretty bad.

1) The Steinway match was for $5000 in the middle, since Ko could only raise $2500.
2) French lied to Dennis saying that the contract was only for DVD sales, so Dennis just signed it trusting him.
3) Dennis wanted to break off his pool relationship with French after the Ko match, because French brought up signing the Ko brothers right after the match, and it made everyone look bad. Also, because every time French was in the pool rooms he was causing trouble and getting people mad at Dennis.
4) Dennis thinks Shane and Mars were willing to bet the 50k, Dennis says that French sent Shane a talent fee of 10k after the Mosconi Cup to play the Carom Room match, plus an agreement for 5k of the door monies collected.
5) Dennis told French that if he also gets 10k before the match, he would play it too. Then Dennis would also get cuts from the Stream and maybe door money, but I'm not sure about the amounts.

Conclusion: French is fine with setting up they matches as paid exhibitions, with false advertising on the amount in the middle being played for.

An all around F'd up situation. I hope things work out for Dennis. The whole 10k check to SVB is quite a shocker, so I'm really not sure what to make of it, but that's what Dennis said.....

Well that changes my opinion as of a minute ago. Shane would definitely show up for $15K and it explains why John has just not been involved publicly at all since all this started. I can see him just throwing up his hands and walking away.

What a shitty deal all the way around.
French needs to go.

Edit to add just because French told Dennis he sent a check doesnt really mean much at this point. If he did Shane decided to send it back as the room owner posted Shane decided to cancel the match. My guess is there is no check.

Yeah, I agree and I doubt that Shane kept the 10k check -- especially considering that he also agreed that the match is cancelled.

I sniffed the b.s when French said during the Ko match that Dennis was putting up $25K of his own money.

I thought perhaps the Shane/Dennis match was worth 10K each, but it was zero and just a scheme to make some money off the PPV and door entry.

Also Dennis might've been under the impression that Shane was mailed that check. French could've easily went out to the mailbox and tore the check up.

Dennis family has a better chance of moving to Mars than to the U.S. Getting a visa to come here from the PI is brutal for a top player no way a whole family just hops on a plane and moves in next door to the Frenchies. Just one more BS statement in a long line of them.

My friend just got his step daughter and her husband over here. It took over a year, there had to be DNA tests proving the step daughter was the daughter of his wife and oh, $50,000 in cash.

Everything points to the most obvious: a loudmouth with a couple hundreds wrapped around a bunch of ones in his pocket runs his mouth and gets some attention. A bunch of folk with no better option than to hope to bilk that loudmouth until he's down to his ones go along with it until loudmouth pulls out.

As Tom Hanks once said: A Very Common Tale.

Dennis vs. SVB Full Story

Before you think Dennis O. is completely honest you need to go watch the 2015 8 Ball Box Finals at the Rio when its around 4-4 playing Mike Dechaine. I think it will change your mind.

When it hits the fan

Many juicy revelations by Dennis O in interview at http://www.americanbilliardradio.com Great job. Mark Cantrall
The crap hits the fan and French can run but he cannot hide

Damn, you know who is smelling like roses now?
Barry Behrman. He is a saint compared to this snake oil salesman, John French :D

Exactly...there was no check sent to SVB . I call bullshit.

Even if SVB did get an advance appearance fee, he isn't going to play this match if there isn't 50k bet as advertised. His reputation is beyond reproach. He wouldn't risk that for a 10 k payday.

Somebody needs to step in and get this match played. Pay each guy 5k appearance money...open the rail up and let it rip. It can still be the biggest action match ever....

The right way to handle this would be to either refund, or offer some other sort of compensation to those who were lied to.

Or, run around the room taking a bunch of side bets on the match and then tell your new "player" you just signed to let off the gas at the end of the match and go and collect your winnings...

Then to top it all off don't give any of those winnings to the player who "won" the match that you were "supposedly" backing, but who found out after the fact there was not "official" money in the middle and instead it was all just action on the rail that your backer won... that somehow the player is not entitled to any of that?..?...

I believe this was the match where Dennis wasn't breaking that great and started gradually tilting the rack towards the side he has breaking from doing the 2nd ball break.

5K to winner, 1K to loser. An exhibition match as such could easily be setup.

French must think there would be extremely high PPV buyers. That's why he was considering giving Shane such a large amount.

When he saw that it was less than 400, he scratched the match.

I think I recall during the Shane/Efren TAR match that it was barely 500 PPV or not even 500.

Might get flamed for this, but putting all the drama and BS aside, I think people put to much importance on size of bet. Egos are on the line and I think both Shane and Dennis have something to prove. I'd watch it if they were playing for $50 in the middle. I justcwantvto know who would win

I agree completely.

I can say with certainty that Dennis had signed paperwork for me in the past -based solely on what I verbally said the paperwork was intended for- WITHOUT even reading.

So it is very, very possible that Dennis signed the contract with John French as he was led to believe -without reading it.

The size of the bet DOES matter. The bigger the bet, the more likely more people would tune in. Of course there are also the small hardcore group that would watch even if these 2 just play practice.

I'm surprised that as close as Dennis is to Jay he didn't run the deal by Jay before committing to anything.

Jay?

I'm with the posters above... a player putting up his own $100 or playing with a backer's 50 grand makes no difference to me. Those "huge" matches where it's mostly just backers putting money up against each other, are no more attractive to me than any other match.
