Updated US Open Straight Pool info

Here is some more info on the upcoming events:

Posters, qualifiers, prize breakdown and all other pertinent info should be posted by next week.


The 2016 US Open One Pocket will be held at Pool Table Magic (75 Ella Grasso Turnpike) Windsor Locks, CT.

Dates: April 18-21, 2016
limited to 48 players
$5,000 first place (based on full field)
$5,000 added (based on full field)
Entry $350 (including all registration and green fees)
Double Elimination (4 on winners/3 on losers--Final race to 5)
Qualifiers to be announced: contact the host room: Mark Kulungian (markptm@aol.com or call 860-627-8494) - provide a phone number and some pertinent info. This is for both events.

SBE ends on 17th and has a Pro 10-ball and Pro One Pocket. This event starts on the 18th.


The US Open Straight Pool Championship starts on the 20th (in the same location) - so lots of pool with very little traveling.
Players (mandatory) meeting at 6 PM - Matches a 7 & 9 PM
Limited to 48 players.
The first invite list will be going out next week.
$10,000 added & $10,000 first place (based on full field)
$600 entry (including green fees and registration)
All players will play a minimum of 5 matches.
Round robin stage is 100 points. Single elimination goes to 150 - finals to 200 points
Streaming will be provided by CSI.
2nd chance event for eliminated players. (Top 3 get $600 each.)

Tyler Styer wins in Chicago

Tyler Styer, of Brookfield, Wisconsin came through a fairly tough field to qualify out of Chicago yesterday.

Some of the players he met up with were Bobby Hunter, Tom Karabatsos, Ron Dobosenski, Steve Hayes, Bob Cozzolino, Ed Latimer, and
Bob Crawford, 100 ball runners all.

I played Tyler for my second loss and he beat me 100-89 with a run of thirty in there. I think he picked up his game a lot to get through that murderer's row of straight pool mechanics.

At one point he thought I was on a foul and he asked me if it was alright if he just did an intentional foul. This was his first straight pool tournament. Another time, he said," I hate this game!", when he made a nice break shot and had nothing. He tried a safe into the side of a 14 ball rack later and his cue ball slipped to the bottom giving me a shot. He was stunned. "Tom Karabatsos just did one to me and it stuck to the rack", he said.

By the time the tournament was over, he was saying he loved this game and that he had learned so much during this tournament.

Very nice young man, polite. Perfect fundamentals. I hope he continues playing it, but in the meantime, he will be a fine representative for the Midwest and Red Shoes.

2016 US Open One Pocket & Straight Pool Championships

CueSports International, Henderson, NV (March 7, 2016) – CSI is pleased to announce the 2016 US Open One Pocket Championship and the 2016 US Open Straight Pool Championship. Both events will be held April 18-24 at Pool Table Magic in Windsor Locks, CT (just a short drive from the Super Billiards Expo which concludes April 17).

US OPEN ONE POCKET
April 18-21
48 players max
Entry Fee: $350
Race to 4/3, Final to 5
Added Money: $5,000 (based on 48)
Double elimination

US OPEN STRAIGHT POOL
April 20-24
48 players max
Entry Fee: $600
Race to 100/150, Final to 200
Added Money: $10,000 (based on 48)
Round Robin (8 groups of 6 – 100pt. matches)
Top 3 from each group advance to a singles elimination bracket – 150pt. matches


INVITED PLAYERS – URGENT – PLEASE READ!
Many of the 48 spots for both events are reserved for invited players through March 15 and invitations have already been sent via email. To accept the invitation, a completed entry form with a $200 (non-refundable) deposit must be received by March 15th. If you do not accept the invitation by March 15, you may lose your spot. On March 16, all remaining spots will be open to anyone. Players who believe they should have received an invitation but did not should contact CSI immediately.

All Other Players
All other players should visit the official webpage for either event (links below), download and complete an entry form, and submit to CSI immediately. You will then be placed on the standby list but not charged until you are given a spot. After March 15, all open spots will be filled by those on the standby list first in the order in which they were received. Therefore, to help secure your spot, do not wait until March 16 – Register today!
