Does anyone have the latest totals after this weekends two events?

Thanks in advance

Let's hope this gets a "yes" or a "will be" along with a link :D

OK, I just tried to figure this out. Five points events have been held so far: TS XXV, DCC 9-Ball, TX Open 10-Ball, Swanee 9-Ball, and Empire State 10-Ball.

Because of the caveats mentioned below, my best approximation to the top 7 players currently is as follows.

1. Oscar Dominguez, 68 points -- 3rd at TS (35 pts), 25th-32nd at TX (3), 1st at Swanee (30)
2. Shaun Wilke, 58 -- 5th-6th at TS (28), 17th-28th at DCC (13), 5th-6th at Empire (17)
3. Rodney Morris, 57 -- 4th at TS (33), 2nd at Swanee (24)
4. Shane Van Boening, 50 -- 1st at DCC (50)
5. Mike Dechaine, 48 -- 9th-12th at TS (18), 1st at Empire (30)
6. Hunter Lombardo, 44 -- 7th-8th at TS (23), 3rd at Empire (21)
7. Skyler Woodward, 35 -- 29th-44th at DCC (5), 1st at TX (30)

The caveats to this are:

• The DCC points schedule posted by Matchroom does not match this year's order of finish, so it may have to be revised. Of the 7 players listed above, this could affect Wilkie and Woodward.

• The "pro" side of the Empire State event drew only 32 players and paid 8 places. I suppose it is possible that the Matchroom points schedule for the event could be revised to reflect the turnout, but I have used the posted schedule. If it is revised, that would affect Wilke, Dechaine, and Lombardo listed above. Also, I do not know who played in the event other than the top 8. So I have had to ignore the points from this event for, possibly, 24 players.

Let's hope that Matchroom will make a news release soon as to the "official" current points standings, and will keep us up to date as the events proceed.

Both in April

Regional player?? An A player can win a mosconi match. There too short for any real world comparisons of players ability:)

You take 5 "A" players and I'll take 5 touring top tier pros, 10 races to 5 @ $100 a match. Johnnyt

Today's Matchroom news release regarding the Mosconi Cup rankings implies that they gave no points for 29th-44th at DCC, making the last points category there 17th-28th place. That reduces Woodward by 5 points (to 30 instead of 35) on the list I posted yesterday (post #3 above) and also affects the points for Wilkie.

My other caveat was that I thought they might reduce the points schedule for the Empire State event because of the small turnout, and they did: "That event had its allocated points reduced by a third and awarded them to top 16 players only following a reduced entry of 32 players." So Wilkie, Dechaine, and Lombardo receive fewer points for Empire State than on my list from yesterday.

Question -- Ernesto Dominguez is in 10th place on Matchroom's list with 21 points. Is he eligible for Team USA? If so, wouldn't he have 29 points instead of 21? He finished 17th-24th at Turning Stone, good for 8 points, and 3rd at Swanee, good for 21 points.

Edit -- I just looked at Matchroom's full points file (thanks BRussell), and it confirms that there were no points for 29th-44th at DCC and that the last points position was 8 points for 17th-28th. But their file does appear to be incorrect regarding Ernesto Dominguez.

Yeah, I agree, but if that is so true, then why do we always get beat so badly every year? It would seem to me that a race to 5 with alternating breaks would give even a decent A player a chance at beating any of the top euro players (playing that format). Maybe the reason why we lose so badly is because the Euro players play much stronger under pressure, and have a much stronger mental game. I do not know, but that is my best guess.

A worse player might have a higher chance of winning any one match to 5 than a match to 13, but the Mosconi Cup is played over several days with several matches each day, first team to win 11 matches wins the whole tournament. It's crazy to think that's just a coin toss.

If your saying that the pros will win the majority of the time, I agree! But I don't think they will win all 10 sets! I would say 8/10 to be fair!

My point is it's short races, that's all:)

Yeah, the Euro players have the strongest mental games in the world I think, and they are all very seasoned world class players. The US has not had a team in a long time that were not only equal in world class talent, but has had the mental game to deal with the pressure. I think a very short rave to 5 with alternating breaks puts a lot of mental pressure on a player, so the US really needs players that are very seasoned in world class events. I do not know, but this is just my opinion.

Matchroom has revised the current points standings for Team USA. They have changed the points allocation for the DCC 9-Ball, reducing 7th-10th place from 23 to 20 points (Frost), increasing 17th-28th place from 8 points to 9 points, and awarding 3 points (instead of none) for 29th-44th place. They also removed Ernesto Dominguez from the list. The current top 10, then, are:

1. Oscar Dominguez, 68 points -- 3rd at TS (35 pts), 25th-32nd at TX (3), 1st at Swanee (30)
2. Rodney Morris, 57 -- 4th at TS (33), 2nd at Swanee (24)
3. Shane Van Boening, 50 -- 1st at DCC (50)
4. Shaun Wilkie, 48 -- 5th-6th at TS (28), 17th-28th at DCC (9), 5th-6th at Empire (11)
5. Mike Dechaine, 38 -- 9th-12th at TS (18), 1st at Empire (20)
6. Hunter Lombardo, 37 -- 7th-8th at TS (23), 3rd at Empire (14)
7. Skyler Woodward, 33 -- 29th-44th at DCC (3), 1st at TX (30)
8. Brandon Shuff, 24 -- 17th-24th at TS (8), 17th-28th at DCC (9), 9th-12th at Empire (7)
T9. Scott Frost, 20 -- 7th-10th at DCC (20)
T9. Junior Jueco, 20 -- 4th at TX (20)

[This implies that Jonny Martinez is not eligible for Team USA. Is that correct?]

Note: The Matchroom March 1 news release mistakenly has Shuff and Frost reversed: http://www.azbilliards.com/news/sto...p-fortunski-wins-in-italy-to-head-mc-ranking/

With the completion of the Chinook Winds Open 8-Ball event last weekend, 6 points events are now in the books. By my figuring, here are the current top 10 in the points standings for Team USA:

1. Oscar Dominguez, 68 points -- 3rd at TS (35 pts), 25th-32nd at TX (3), 1st at Swanee (30)
2. Rodney Morris, 64 -- 4th at TS (33), 2nd at Swanee (24), 13th-16th at Chinook (7)
3. Shaun Wilkie, 63 -- 5th-6th at TS (28), 17th-28th at DCC (9), 5th-6th at Empire (11), 5th-6th at Chinook (15)
4. Skyler Woodward, 61 -- 29th-44th at DCC (3), 1st at TX (30), 1st at Chinook (28)
5. Mike Dechaine, 56 -- 9th-12th at TS (18), 1st at Empire (20), 4th at Chinook (18)
6. Shane Van Boening, 50 -- 1st at DCC (50)
7. Hunter Lombardo, 47 -- 7th-8th at TS (23), 3rd at Empire (14), 9th-12th at Chinook (10)
8. Billy Thorpe, 26 -- 9th-12th at TX (11), 5th-6th at Chinook (15)
9. Brandon Shuff, 24 -- 17th-24th at TS (8), 17th-28th at DCC (9), 9th-12th at Empire (7)
10. Taylor Anderson, 22 -- 2nd at Chinook (22)

Caveats
• Assumes Jonny Martinez is not eligible for Team USA.
• Assumes Matchroom sticks with the originally posted points schedule for Chinook.
