Which direction does English throw the ball?

Hello. This is a point that I've been confused for for quite a long time. I've tried googling it but most just talk about the effects of throw but not the DIRECTION of throw. Even when I play, the effects of using english to throw a particular ball into the pocket is not clear (but that's probably cause of aiming and stroking errors)

So... let's say I'm cutting the OB into the left pocket and I use inside English. Because I use left english here, does this throw the object to the right or to the left?

Left english throws the object ball to the right
Right english throws the object ball to the left
 
That clears up a lot. Thanks :) Been using TOI to aim recently and was trying to figure out what CJ meant by his 3 part pocket. Turns out I was aiming at the wrong end of the 3 part pocket....

Normally, TOI has no spin on the cue ball!

English throws the OB in the opposite direction. Think of like 2 gears moving.

When one gear spins left, it causes the other to spin right.
When one gear spins right, it causes the other to spin left.

One other thing, when you put English on the CB you have to adjust your aim to account for the squirt/deflection.

I think it is better to think of the surface of the ball as slightly sticky. The direction of the throw for any collision is determined by the direction of motion of the surface of the incoming ball. The surface drags the struck ball slightly off the expected (simple, ideal) line.

Wait.

Left goes right, then left again.
Right goes left, the right again.

Masse is an exaggeration of this, right?

Now you've really confused yourself. Maybe you should forget anyone told you about throw. The discussion of throw might hold more people back than it helps.

It can really be confusing when we don't known what his cue is like.
That 'TOI' could have complications if his cue squirts a lot...
...like a 13mm flatish tip with an ivory ferrule.

Sometimes it's not safe to get out of bed.

Have you seen the following online video:

NV B.86 - Cut-induced throw (CIT) and spin-induced throw (SIT), from VEPS IV

It covers most of the important principles related to throw.
