Unless you are using that machine just for tapering, isn't it a hassle to recenter(if using a set tru or the like) the chuck every time you want to switch out?

I look at it this way.
The main lathe is your bread and butter lathe .
Do you really want to use it often to taper ???
That's the same lathe you're going to install joint screws, do all the facing, boring and threading. And perhaps, gun drilling .
My taper machine is a work horse. It gets used a ton. I've spent some dough to modify it so it can turn coring dowels, handles and forearms besides shafts and butts. Dust collection on it is much easier than in the big lathe .
I am done with your soap opera Randy, and it was all about me being happy with a new machine and I made a remark about a tool being used on a lathe and it hurt your feelings, sorry about that.

I thought it might be helpful for everyone to get some information. You're the one who started being an ass. Since you said your ex sold your equipment, i thought a 1340, since it was big enough to do everything.

It's fine when he calls me over and over the last several years and constantly asks me my opinion, then when he says what I have, PUBLICLY, is junk and I ask him to explain himself he says I know basically NOTHING about cue building.....well I guess he knows it ALL and doesn't need anyone's help.

I get that. I really do. He clearly insinuated that glass DRO scales are junk. If I had a DRO with glass scales I would have called him on it also. He was puffed up about his new machine and belittled what he didn't buy to feel more puffy. That seems to be pretty common. Imagine the uproar in these parts if he had changed lathe brands from xyz lathe to pdq lathe and summarily referred to xyz lathe as junk?
Do you really expect him to reply with "My mistake. Glass scales have been used in countless machine shops for many years with extremely accurate results. They aren't junk. I misspoke. I just feel like what I purchased is a little better for me than my other options."? Those first two words are too hard for some people I guess.
By all means, call him out publicly. Argue the point. Provide evidence on glass scales to show his statement was ludicrous. Sever ties with him publicly if that is your best move. It certainly sounds like it given he goes to you for advice then something like this publicly happens. I just feel like when it comes to personal stuff, posting private messages, etc., it just shouldn't happen. It doesn't help the forum and people watching who don't know what it is up will form an opinion based on who looks more like a victim rather than facts. Usually, nobody wins when it gets to that point and we all just look stupid.

Tony, be confident about your decisions without calling other stuff junk. The truth is nobody will ever be able to look at your cues and tell you used magnetic scales instead of glass. And unless you think Randy is totally masquerading as a cue maker (maybe he is just here to get chicks?) and doesn't belong in the forum answering cuemaker questions, publicly taunting him to show his cues or his ringwork comes off as childish. Alot of what has happened gets lost because guys don't bother reading everything. People don't get that he implied on the phone, and on here initially("ex sold my equipment?) that he was starting from scratch. A 1340 would have been a machine he could do everything on, which is why I couldn't understand his purchase of a 1236. Later we learn he still has the taper shaper and a cnc. That doesn't matter anymore because I am the ass who "just can't be happy that the guy got some new toys".

The words might have been a bit strong and I already apologized for it. If I did hurt somebodies feelings, the apology was extended to that as well.

That's why I gave up posting on here unless I am buying something. I just post my work in the gallery and that is it. That way nobody gets offended, some people are just too sensitive, real friends don't react like that and don't curse on other people... Good way to find out who are your real friends.
