If you were spending 2,000 on a cue

Best $2000 cue is a Josswest if you can find the one you want.
The playability and construction is a perfect fit for the $2000 cue.
JW's play as good as any cues ever made, and these days for two grand you can get a
nice vintage cue that is collectible, and it will hold it's value.

Not sure if he's been mentioned, but for 2k you could get a really nice Nitti cue. His workmanship is pretty special and mine plays really nice.

Ah, yeah. I'd add Nitti to my list too. There are a couple available at a cue dealer for under $2k that are really nice.

might as well throw my subjective picks into the hat:

if I were buying a $2k cue it would be a scruggs, james white, or mottey.

someone mentioned Tascarella which are also great cues but you would be at least $500 short for a pointed tasc in nice shape.

cues that play like $2k but cost less than $1k are Olneys, Diveneys and Jensens.

best,

Ted Harris. Everybody that's played one has loved it.
If you can find a used Tasc for 2k I dont think you could ever lose money.
Alot of used Richard Blacks for 2k or less
Jerry -R- makes a great looking cue

Kenny Murrell

that bumperless hoppe listed in the for sale section has to be one of the best deals I have seen in a long time, if I wanted a great playing cue it would be mine but I am still in love with my SLY.

For that kind of money you should also think of resale in the event that you don't like it. Tascarells, Searing, Sambodi, cues that will always be easy to sell and hold value, Waiting on a Tascarella now with four shafts, accoding to
pete by the end of the summer,,,,

none of the cues you mentioned fit within the op's guideline of $2k.

I would go with a Satin Southwest and order and extra 2 more shafts with Laurie.

Find it funny that you will recommend a Jerry Rauenzahn but you play with a different cue,,,,

Isn't buying something you dont already have part of some people's buying consideration for one cue @ $2k?

I'm sure people answered with Cuemakers they already have, but if I were to answer (and I didn't), it would be Cuemakers I don't have like:

Richard Harris - Bluegrass
Steve Dunkel
Pete Tonkin
Larry Vigus
Jake Hulsley
Dan Dishaw
Brent Hartmann
Josh Treadway

The list is pretty damned long, if you have $2k!

Freddie <~~~ couldn't choose one

I have a Nitti.
That cue and I never fully get along for some reason.
I think it may be because the butt width at the very back is 1.3"
and I usually like narrower butts. Just feels large in my hands.
It's a heck of a cue though, objectively speaking.
Very very solid hit definitely a top dog.

Spend 1200 with Steve Klein, get 800 in lessons.

JV

Here we go again. No.2 pointing out lessons....haha...amazing

1. Just because I spend 2000 on a cue doesn't mean I can't spend "800" on lessons.

2. Just wondering what makes you so sure I need lessons?

3. With this philosophy I could just as easily buy a 300 dollar cue and spend 1700 on lessons.

I appreciate the financial advice but I have 2k to spend ON A CUE and that's where that 2k is going.
Not lessons, not paying bills, not getting new tires or buying groceries.......etc.

Anyway, I've gotten some excellent replies.
I never knew I could get a South West, Tascarella, Gilbert and some of the other ones mentioned for 2k.
I'll look into all those things.

Just for your sanity check, I thought you were perfectly clear on your initial post.

I guess you have to be even clearer that you have some other pot of money to spend on every other billiard related thing, lessons, cases, groupies...

Freddie <~~~ could use more groupies

I remember a while back John Schmidt claimed he had lots of groupies but he added that, unfortunately, they were all 50+ y.o. men. :grin-square: :D :grin-square:
