If you were spending 2,000 on a cue

hmmm...

I certainly don't have experience with some of the guys mentioned, But I'd throw i another shout out for

Steve Dunkel

Particularly if your local, he takes care of you after the sale and long term...

Just got my second one (will probably try to move my first one I got - although not real hard)...

Another name I'd mention is Mike Durbin... I've had 2 of his and they just hit plain awesome!!

I've got an ebony - ivory jointed Gilbert for sale, just a touch north of $2k... Andy and Vicki are good people and stand behind their product.

Finally, I've heard he is looking to get out of the cue business, but Mike Gulyassy is another first rate guy who stands behind his product.

If I had $2000 to spend on a cue, I'd buy a new drum kit instead :p

Honestly, I'd be scared to take something like that to a pool hall and actually use it. I'd be so worried about where it was all the time, and worried about how I was handling it, that I wouldn't have any fun playing.

I certainly appreciate the craftsmanship of such cues, they are amazing. A friend has a beautiful custom (which I can't remember the name at this moment) which would qualify for this thread, and I'm nervous for him when he brings it. I cannot imagine it being mine, and out in the pool room.

This thread seems a lot like the threads that ask which tip is best. All you get is the names of everybody who makes a product that meets the description as well as a few that do not. In this case, every cuemaker who makes a $2K cue has been listed except two that immediately come to mind.
Eddie Cohen
Jules Patterson (EDC)
I’m still looking for that $2K Searing or Szamboti.

Actually I've learned a lot from this post and am very glad that I put the question out there.

Lots of excellent suggestions that I hadn't considered and I've gotten some valuable information from this.
Both in the thread and PM.

My horizon has broadened quite a bit.

It'll be on craigslist, they'll require that you bring cash and it will look more like a glock.

I could attest to this about Steve Dunkel as I have 6 players of his, 1 jump & his new extension kit. He is world class to deal with. I believe I'll be purchasing another player from him at the next SBE as I hopefully talked him into making a certain cue for display there next year. Not quite sure if he is taking orders though anymore.

A few come to mind

For 2K I would look at Andy Gilbert first. He makes a fantastic cue for the money and is easy to not only work with but delivers as promised and within a reasonable time.

Second would probably be a Steve Klein. I owned one, really liked it, got on his list for a new one, sold the one I had and am still waiting to hear back from him. If you can get him to make you one, I do not think you would be disappointed with the outcome.

Third would probably be Bob Runde. The man knows how to make a great playing cue bar none.

Last on my short list would be a Frey. Another cue maker that makes a great playing cue.

As a side note, I prefer Stainless Steel joints and I won't say these makers specialize in them but some makers don't use that set up or maybe just don't use it as often so they don't make my personal cut. As you whittle your list down, you may want to keep things like that in mind.

Baring who I know personally, I think I'd ask YOU to make a nicely figured birdseye maple merry widow with a segmented 3 piece pitch black gabon ebony handle.. Yeah, the "new" tuxedo look, that would do nicely...

I'd do that if you're serious.
Just PM me.

I'd BE serious IF, at this time, I was looking for a cue to spend 2k on... Unfortunately at this time all my "2k's" went into a particular prop cue that found its way to me..

Someday though Joey...

After seeing some of his recent work, no doubt Eddie Cohen. You get a lot for the money and he delivers on time. He just made a spectacular cue for a friend of mine, love it.

no question in my mind that Jack Madden would be the choice, great player, cue maker. Beyond easy to deal with, a real pro who will work with you on every aspect of your order (I'm a big fan of his from a previous transaction). His cues hit unreal and I like that he handpicks triangle tips out of many he has at hand and returns the bad ones. We really don't need laminated tips, just good fundamentals......but that's another subject that a lot of players miss out on.........so, big time vote for Jack Madden.

Depends on the source of the $2K.

If someone is giving me $2,000 for me to have a cue made, I would go to Home Depot and buy two dowels, glue them together and put a tip on it, and pocket the change.

If it my money, I would definitely order a Keith Kustom Kue. I would have to be very patient, as I believe he is booked a long ways out. Check out his "Cash Money" cue.
