Are League Players This Bad?

I do kinda think he was making an attempt at some humor, which if not mean spirited isnt such a horrible thing right?

You got it BmM!

All I did was report what I saw. I said nothing - NOTHING - about what kind of people they are, what their personalities are like, how much they enjoyed it, how new to the game, etc, etc, etc. A bunch of people on here saw fit to twist and turn and spin this around into trying to make me look like the bad guy or something. Its the same crap that goes on here all the time by a lot of the same people. Its one of the main reasons why people have left this forum.

I'll now wait for people to attack this comment as well. Maybe its time we just let this thread die, huh?

Best to ya,

To be un-bias to the OP, i get what he's saying. It doesn't matter what level HIS
game is but commented what he seen on a league night.
I don't golf but if I watch a golfer hit 5 shots into the water and the next guy shank
3 in the woods and 2 into the snackbar I might say ''Wow there playing awful''.
Now this doesn't mean anything else than that. Not saying there horrible
people or even horrible golfers, just commenting on the shots i witnessed.
The OP did the same and shared his thoughts and wonderment.

Totally agree. So, I'm about to make myself target to some jokes, but I'm making a point. I also play badminton on a decently competitive level. When a "newbie" comes to the club, we don't smash shuttles at them, or pick on them, or laugh at them because they're new. If they want to play with us, we adjust our level of play to make it fun, yet challenging for them, but we never make them feel out of place. Because...a few years ago, we were the newbies. And the people that played with me extended me the same courtesy of teaching me how to play, without feeling like an outsider. One of my greatest joys in pool was when I was an aspiring 4/5 in the CPA, and the superstar 7 knew my name, and would say hello to me. Having the attention and respect of the peers you admire and emulate will do more for your game than anything, because you feel like part of something bigger.

I pay it forward now. I'm the 7. And when a 2/3/4 comes to talk with me, I make a point of learning their name, and saying hi to them when I can. And if they want to play a few racks after league, I am more than happy to hit balls with them. And when they ask me questions, I do my best to answer them. Because there was a time 20 years ago when I was trying desperately to draw the cueball like the "good players". And without a little encouragement from those guys, and a few pointers, etc.....I'd have probably given up.

Very well said. I am the same. I am very far from a world beater, but will never turn away from someone asking for advice or clearly wanting to get better. Too bad this feeling is not more prevalent.

I do not understand the hate for leagues. I have only played BCA, but have seen an APA league night in action. Yes, there were terrible players that took 15 minutes to play a rack of 9 ball where each player had probably 6 shots at the 9 ball, but there is no reason to hate. They are having fun. Some are trying to get better, others are buying beers and just focusing on the good time...

I went somewheres tonight to watch a pool league. Dunno if its an APA or VNEA or Local or something else. And I must admit, what I saw was pitiful. I mean really, really bad.

Is this typical of the caliber of play in most leagues? I was thinking about trying to hook up with a team to get some competition but no thanks after what I saw

Assuming you have enough money I can set up a nice match for you against
an active, well documented league player who has been playing the same league
for years now.

You can have the 6-out playing 10-ball or a similar spot in any other game. Come get some.

The fact that you watched one league match and had to come on the internet to ask if all league play is that bad shows your ignorance and inexperience in the game.

Ever since English was banned you sure have been posting a lot more

What I think you could learn from league players is how much they enjoy the game...even though they aren't perfect at it.

As ENGLISH! would say, all I did was state what I saw. That the league players I saw were absolutely terrible. They didn't know what they were doing. All i asked was whether all league players are like this. The rest of you posters have put your own spin on all of this. Spin after spin after spin. Go ahead if you want, makes no difference to me.

Yup.

You ARE behaving just like ENGLISH!

Why you think that is a good thing is the puzzling part.

If you're looking for a reason as to why people leave the forum, as well as the game itself, look no further than the mirror.

You wish.

So you think you are better then the players you saw?

When was the last time you competed in anything pool related other then shooting with a friend?

I don't have any skin in this, but where are you guys coming up with this?

He ASKED a question based on an observation in the OP. It seems you all are adding your biases to the OP.

OK, now it's my turn, I'm guessing.

Good advice.

Jeff Livingston

So are you of the opinion he isn't mocking these league players? And, mocking people in general who don't play good? Are you of the opinion he was asking a legitimate question?

He was being a bully. If me/us pointing that out means I'm bad for pool, then guilty as charged.

It's really not difficult to make the connection as to what he was saying. If you and he want to be naive and say "I DIDN'T SAY THAT" then fine, really no further dialogue needed.

Maybe go back and read his posts over the last ten years and you'll get it.

So you don't have to search
http://forums.azbilliards.com/search.php?searchid=17705574

In case you don't feel like reading, the basic response comes from how he is always posting about how bad he is. His lack of ability to run out, or make a ball on the break for example. How he is about to just give up on the game, that he mostly plays against himself at home. And then he comes here, and complains about how bad others play. Sure he has posted that wasn't his intention, but I think most people believe that isn't true. And on some of his threads when its been suggested he go out and play in some tournaments, he doesn't want to because they aren't challenging enough outside of the derby.

Everyone is basing those biases on the OPs posting history.

Well by saying they are so bad... one would assume he thinks himself a better player.

We all know how leagues work. Low skill levels, Mid, and High Skill levels. So he went and watched a match that was probably two lower skill leveled players and based his entire opinion about league on that.

It's also no secret will not compete in anything at all. He is either very insecure or has a superiority complex. Frankly I think he is insecure and tries to fake it with a superiority complex.

I've already posted my opinion a few days ago about the OP and what it (didn't) mean.

Now, I'll post my opinion on those here in this thread who think he dissed pool, leagues, and god, apparently: Methinks you all made up a motivation for his post that wasn't in the post itself. You all COULD be right, but you can't know for sure.
