Nice post Jeff. You hit the nail on the head. Some posters just like to trash and bash people and make a mountain out of a molehill. Then others jump on the bandwagon.

Notice the other thread where a poster is wondering whats wrong with his teammates. Is anybody trashing and bashing him for making bad comments about league players?

Would bowling establishments (do they still call them bowling alleys) dry up and go away if their leagues left? Do enough of the general public wander in to keep the doors open?
I wonder if the same wouldn't hold true for pool leagues? :)

The whole response thingy here surprised me, as you and I have conversed before and I never noticed whatever it is that the posters here are saying about your posting style, but I guess I never really looked for any of that.

BAM, drop mike, walk off stage. I know at least 100 league players that would rob him as well. The only reason the number is not higher is cause I only know 100 folks ;)

Yeah and all 100 of them are probably a ball better now that they get chalk from you. You gotta stop that $#!+ RJ. Some of us still gotta eat!

DCP, lorider was being sarcastic in that thread. He was poking fun at the general misconception that all league players sandbag, and don't want their Skill Levels to rise. If you aren't familiar with lorider and his postings here, that would be why you didn't follow the intent of that thread.

I promise you, he wasn't bashing his teammates, in fact he's happy that three new players on one of his teams all actively want to improve and be ranked at a higher level.

You went to leagues to watch a match and instead of talking to people at the pool hall to ask about the skill levels in the area, you came here and ran your mouth about how bad some were.

Implying that you are much better, which I doubt, and also showing your intelligence level.

You need to get out more..

And then out top of it, we find out you can't play a lick to begin with ?? just wow :rolleyes:

Wrong again. I am starting to see where ENGLISH! is coming from.

I said the league players that I saw were really bad. I asked if that was the way most leagues were. I didn't trash them, I just stated an observation.

And who says I cant play a lick? I just ran a few racks of 9-Ball on a table with 4.25 inch pockets. No great feat, but still pretty good.

Sorry, but these are your words, not mine, not his, not hers, not English or some other kook, but yours. This is not an observation, this is a grumpy old guy that thinks he's some player running racks in his basement (mind), while making fun of folks who are just starting the game. So, next time I drive by a little league field, i'll start a post about the horrible play, how they miss the cut off man, they walk guys, and they don't know how to slide correctly ???

I play in a cash, masters league in florida, the players are pretty strong.

Im not sure about apa masters, but if it looks anything like our masters league, you probably wont be complaining about how bad the players are, lol.

I'll answer your original question, since some others haven't. Some league players are beginners, but not all. If you really want to know the caliber of players in a particular league, then you will have to spend more time watching more than just one or two teams and more than just a few players in that league. Remember: most leagues are handicapped which allows a wide variety of playing types to compete.

Depending on the league, some players are highly skilled and play seriously strong pool.

I'm one who also tries to be diplomatic upon occasion here Fran, so I appreciate what you're trying to do here with this post.

Still, do you honestly believe that DCP needed to have that explained to him? After all his time spent here on this forum, and playing pool for as long as he has? Having spent time with several instructors?

His original post certainly seemed rather troll-ish, to this observer. To not have any sense of the scope of the subject he presented seems....suspect. I appreciate many of his threads in the Instructor section, as I usually learn something from them. So please understand it's not necessarily a "DCP thing".
