Player Behavior

We all try to get our sport to get better coverage and promote our game...I was watching the first 10 Ball match from Vegas, with MIKE DECHAINE AND DANNY SMITH...Well Mike was trailing 7- 1. he breaks the Balls and makes one. then he misses his first shot, and what he does next, he should be penalized for... He takes his stick apart and quits because he is losing. People, we try hard to improve our game for More and Better Coverage, but when players act like this, and just up and quits because he missed a shot...this is one of the reasons our sport doesn't get the respect we wish it would. Again the paying customer is also cheated out of seeing a match that they paid for. We should not allow this type of behavior go unpunished...The paying Customer has the right to see a match they paid for, and for this to happen at the Start of 11 Days of Professional Pool is uncalled for. This is called the : US Open 10- Ball, and should be a prestigious event, not to be cheapened by a player who can't control his emotions !!! This is only my opinion, but I wonder how the other people think ? .....Should a Player be Penalized for the Give up ?

Does this really surprise anyone? MikeD. has acted like a little b^*@h his whole career.

I was waiting for someone to post something about this. I read his FB post and it made it sound like he forfeited and never played.

Well. Since I forfeited this morning, CSI decided to pull my challenge match from their schedule. Good luck to whoever fills my spot.

Forfeit my first match at the US Open 10 Ball. Not feeling well and my head wasn't into it. Good luck to Danny Smith.

I agree, it should come as no surprise..Dechaine has often been so unprofessional and childish, we have come to expect it!..Fortunately, most of the better players don't act that way..They have their own pride, and realize they owe it to the paying, or even non-paying spectators to put forth their best effort.

At least someone like 'Earl the Pearl' adds a dash of color to his tantrums!..If very many players acted like Mike does, there might not be any free streaming..or especially PPV streaming of marquee events..It would certainly make them very tough to sell!

Recent photo of M.D. after a loss.

Johnnyt you took those words out of my mouth ur bang on no way he should be there I'm surprised he's still has a sponsor if he does.

It looks like CSI yanked Dechaine from one of the pro matches, against Rodney Morris, and put in Bustamante in his place.

Player behavior

Yes,...Maybe he is going to pay the price for his actions earlier,..99 % of the Pro Players do present themselves in a very Positive Manner...Someone new watching that might have said " What was that ? We need to Promote this great game in a Positive Matter....I am glad someone feels the same way I do about Mike unscrewing his cue before the end of the match...We are better then this..These matches this week carry Mosconi Cup Points .......

He is a good player, but I can't stand watching him.

He is a rack mechanic and a sore loser of the worst sort.

I would never pay a dime to watch him and seldom watch him even on free streams.

Some people got exactly what they wanted in that match :grinning-moose:

I see that MD is not sponsored by OB cues presently. Maybe a sports psychologist would be good for his behavior.

Mike Dechene is very fussy when someone racks the balls for him
and tells player to rack again

This is what i would do when Deschene racks the balls i would tell
him to rack the balls over and over again even though the rack
is ok. That would drive him crasy

CSI barred Mike from playing a challenge match against against Rodney Morris and used Fransisco Bustamante in his place.

Not only does "forfeiting a match" cheat the paying public out of what they paid-for - it's extremely unprofessional and contributes to pool's already-bad reputation. It also cheats Mike's sponsors out of valuable airtime and exposure.

On top of all that - I've seen many players come back from major deficits - This is what defines the very misunderstood term "heart" but - apparently that was never explained to Mr. Dechaine.

Can't think of a good course of action, but I won't purchase another stream that involves Earl Strickland. Watched the match between him and Darren Appleton on the 10 ft. 4 pocket table. He was raking in 3 and 4 balls left to give up games. Behaving terrible to the fans there. I felt bad for the promoter, he put a lot of money into purchasing the table and setting the whole thing up.

If I was OB Cues, I'd drop him like a bad habit. Not good for them nor the sport.

If he felt bad or had something that was bothering him that day, he should have

just not shown for the match and said " I have a severe stomach flu" or

something to that respect. Why even show up if you already don't feel well?

Anyway.OB should quit sponsoring him at the least! And on top of that, maybe even

suspend him from MC points for the P&%% sportsmanship. We don't need this kind

of negativity in our beloved sport!

PS, Mark Wilson, please take this in to account when we are getting ready for the MC

this year

it seems people ask why does this company allow this, why does this sponsor support that?

the real question iis why does anybody watch this stuff in the first place
earl ,mike ..why not bar them

i never watch them, wouldn't support them

I'm not going to defend any of dechaine's prior actions. I don't see this as outrageous as many of you do. Guy shows up, doesn't feel or play well, and pulls out. I don't see the big deal, happens all the time in sports. I personally think the could have played the set out, but I'm not him. I have no idea how he was actually feeling, nor do you. I don't see how it's inherently better to scratch before the match, he tried and wasn't up to it. Ok what does that matter to you? Again I dislike the attitude he has shown in the past, but I've heard nothing of him acting that way here. If he went on a tirade and blamed everyone else in the room but himself that would be a different story, simply conceding to your opponent is not grounds for dismissal.
