another getting my cue on a plane question...

I'm not shipping my cues. I'm taking a carry on for my clothes. Here's what I'm planning on doing with my cues. I'm going to wrap my case in bubble wrap (I use a butterfly case) and then put it in a shipping box and tape it up good. Then just check it in like you would your luggage. Does anyone see a problem with this?
 
Would only see problem if TSA decides it wants to open package for further inspection. And, they do open packages occasionally.
 
I think they would be ok traveling in just the case if that happens .. I just wanted some extra protection. fortunately I don't play with expensive cues any more so I'm not totally worried about it

I'm curious why that would be a problem? I'm taking some cues with me to Europe soon. Why is it a problem if TSA checks them?

Hard shipping tube instead of box. But I am not speaking from experience. Last time I flew with cues was before 9/11. At That time I always just took my Joss in my Fellini in a checked bag. No way I would do that anymore.

Use a larger suitcase and a hardcase. Put your cue case in your suitcase and check the whole thing.

Depends what airline for me. If I'm flying Southwest (free bags) then I'll put my whole case in a lacrosse bag with my clothes. That'll cost me $100+ on Frontier so I'm just handing them my case, less my playing stick butt which is wrapped up in my checked baggage suitcase. If they steal/lose my case it's only some shafts/break stick. Nothing I can't easily replace.

You do know they open bags and sometimes take things out? Luggage and contents of luggage have been known to have gone missing. You may not want to risk checking it in. If the cues in question are expensive, my choice would be to ship them with insurance (caveat- if you trust the receiving location). But if you are going to check them in, a hard case or tube with some padding placed in another large luggage piece. Sports duffle bag or such. I think there might be some restrictions on the size and that depends on the airline. Check with them too to see their suggestions.

It's s problem because they are usually in a rush and not particularly careful. The harder you make it for them -- like wrapping in bubble wrap -- the more likely they could damage things. Unlikely you'll be happy with the TSA rewrap job either.

There are plenty of pieces of soft luggage out there made to carry cases/cues that you can slap a TSA friendly lock on.

My main player is one I built myself. If something happens to it, I'll just build another one. :) I'm more worried about my old porper case. I might use the cheap tube style case I have here. It's actually harder, but I'll need to pad it a bit to keep the cues from rattling around.

Good luck in Vegas!

Last year I used a collapsible hard golf travel case. Put my case and three team mates cases inside. went in as regular luggage. No problems at all.

Previously I used a large baseball travel bag. The soft ones with wheels and a strap. Put my cues in the case and packed it in with my clothes. Like a large duffle bag.

Also, no problem.

I don't think I'd ship it ahead of time, once it gets to your hotel, the carrier's insurance lapses and I don't necessarily trust the hotel staff to be diligent.

Before 9/11, I carried my cue on the plane with me, in a Fellini case.
