I am really doing this to kind of have a timeline, with intentions of updating every so often, & hoping to see progression.

A little about me, My name is Kenne Thomas (Mostly go by KT), I did my first cue conversion on a Willie Hoppe Pro Titlist with the help of John Nemec. I have been doing a few sneaky conversions a year since, and learning A-joint construction methods, v-grooves, full splice construction, and all the ins & outs of cue making thru lots & lots of trial & error. I have built the cue blanks for OB cues for the past 4 1/2 years. I learned a ton from Royce in the short time that I got to work with him & am learning something new every day. Damn, I miss that man.

Anyway I just wanted to post some pictures of the building I have come into, a 2500 sq ft freestanding w/ AC & heat, which is more or less gonna be a "hobby" shop, a getaway, somewhere to go to do the things I like to do.

1st, here are the "plans", destined to change 101 times:

view from the front:

commercial package unit:

view from the back:

A few inside shots of the "office"

A few shots of inside the shop and all my crap so far:

Jet grinding wheel with belt sander attatchment:

Old South Bend 9 that I am going to restore:

Area cleaned out for the "dirty" room construction beginning soon:

Couple of grizzly shop vacs:

20-ton press

Old South Bend Heavy 10 that has been restored:

Patriot CNC lathe/mill

The South Bend 9 and an old Delta wood lathe to set up for sanding:

Vent for the spray booth exhaust fan:

Air compressor:

A little spare time fun hittin em into the pond roughly 180 yds to the near edge:

And of course when you get hungry, fire up the ole grill:

So thats it, everything is pretty much piled to one side or the other to make room for the "dirty" room construction, then I will move everything to the other side to make room to build the "clean" room...the top of both to be used for storage for all my crap that you see on those racks.
And the S-10 truck bed for when I get my lift in and move the S10 project in for something to do while I am waiting on epoxy to dry haha.

Thanks for looking, any suggestions or comments on the setup "plans" will be welcomed. My goal is about 2 years & about $25,000+ more to actually be putting out quality constructed cues.

Thanks again,
KT

Wow! That is a Texas size hobby shop. Congratulations and good luck. If you need some padauk you know where to find me.

Very nice building! My only suggestion would be find or make an area for finishes, with good ventilation. Congrats on the new shop!

Nice space you found there. It's going to take a while to fill it up so you can't move around. Looks like you're getting a good jump on it though:)

Nice man cave :)
What Eric Crisp said, make an area just for finishes with an explosion proof fan.
Keep posting some updates.

You guys are giving good advice.

Top right corner of diagram is the set aside spray room. There is a door to that room...so it is closed off. Prep area, spray booth against wall (undoubtedly exhausted to outside), and a UV booth.

You have a very nice shop. I would advise putting those air filters outside or a closet with venting going outside. Those filter bags still let a lot of dangerous fine particle dust to fill your shop and lungs up.

Really nice shop you got there

Please keep us in the loop as you get things done. That is going to be one hell of a shop when all is said and done. May I ask if this is your hobby or a job? Just asking out of curiosity as that kind of space allows for a lot to be done ;)

Thanks Chris, I think this is the booth I am going with, it will have filters in the back and vented up thru the fan in the upper left hand corner of the shop, Im going to build a "clean room" to put it in so it is closed off from the rest of the shop.

It is just going to be a hobby "shop", /storage building / man cave, I understand how hard it is to make cue building a total source of income so all I am hoping for is for it to be just a self sustainable hobby, I enjoy the challenge, the building, and just want to learn and have fun doing it.
I have the car lift in there for any of my car/truck projects I get started on. Just the worst part about it is it's not on my property, it is about 10 minutes from the house. But, it will give me an idea of what kind of space/setup I need when I build the new house & shop a few years down the road.

Thanks everyone for your input & comments. I will try to take pictures & keep everything updated along the way.

I miss the crap out of Royce too my friend.

^^^^^+10^^^^^^

BCA, APA, and just about everyday I think of him. We weren't very close, but I don't know how ANYONE who met the man can't feel a sense of loss. Certainly BCA and APA weren't the same...

Here is some good info on dust collection.... I WISH I had as much room as you do.. I have 3 air cleaners for 500 feet of shop space and a cyclone that dumps outside. I am STILL moving crap around in order to best utilize the space I have. I'm forced to do this because I am a Craigslist, auction, tool junkie that can't stop buying.....stuff...
