Paul Dayton made my dream cue!

My favorite wood is pernambuco. Early on, I got a Schmelke with a one piece rosewood butt. There was just something special about it (along with the other one pieces I've had since). My dream was a cue with a one piece pernambuco butt. Honestly, I thought it would be impossible to find a suitable piece of wood. Then, one day, I stumbled upon the perfect piece and pulled the trigger.

Now all I had to do was find someone to make the cue. I spoke to a few other makers, but they weren't really interested. I contacted Paul, and he was like "No problem, send me the wood". He had made me a cue previously, so I knew his work was excellent. I sent him the wood in June, and just got the finished cue yesterday

Paul did an amazing job. IMO, he is one of the most underrated makers out there. He has some really nice old growth shaft wood, and I love his taper. This cue looks and plays just the way I was hoping it would.

As it turned out, the piece of pernambuco was big enough for two cues. Paul was able to make a new cue for himself, as well.

Thank you Paul for making my dream come true!

Interesting project, congratulations to both, cuemaker and owner.
Is the butt solid without any coring? How much does it weight?
Thanks,
Petros

Yes, it is solid. The butt weighs 16 oz (no weight bolt). The shaft (11.75 mm) is 3.2 oz.

beautiful cue
i live near paul and have 2 of his cues and have another on the way....:grin:
he is easy to communicate with and does outstanding work
occasionally i see him playing straight pool at a room near where we live
btw
the joint on your cue
is it a white phenolic or an ivory sleeved joint ?
all his cues ( i am pretty sure)are flat faced with a wood to wood connection and then a sleeve

Nice. Kind of like my all-maple Schmelke:

Congrats and enjoy. Have a cue with that wood and it's solid stuff. Not easy to find that piece I would imagine.

Paul is an excellent craftsman, perfectionist, and great to communicate and work with. I too love his taper and the hit of his cues.

My Dayton is a stainless collar 5/16x14 piloted. My preferred joint...but the cue was not made for me.

hit

Great decision. Paul is definitely a cuemaker that considers the hit of every component of the build. It's all over his website. He will not use any type of thermoplastic in his cues because he considers them too soft - thus sacrificing the purity of the hit. Usually uses phenolics. I own a Dayton that isn't going anywhere...

for a guy who is
Nuts4Tascarellas
has a dayton
I own a Dayton that isn't going anywhere..
that shoud speak volumes how his cues play

Very nice looking cue! Congrats to the maker and purchaser!

FWIW pernambuco wood is what is used on violin bows.... "That stroke... it's like he's, uh, like he's playin' the violin or somethin'" LOL ;) (The Hustler)

Amazing cue, thanks for the pictures. Never sell that bad boy, Pernambuco is very rare and I believe it will be near impossible to get in the near future.

I made two mini cues from Pernambuco and I was able to get a shine on it without finish.

Absolutely loving this cue. It can certainly take some credit for the fact that I've actually been winning in league lately.

I only have one thin out of the dayton shop, a shaft.

It is great. Top quality wood and you can tell he did it up correctly.
