Team Taiwan vs The World

I gotta say I would take the top 5 guys from Taiwan (including Wu who is a Taiwanese export) over the top 5 guys in the rest of the world.

Ko Pin Yi
Ko Ping Chung
Chang Jung Lin
Wu Chia Ching
Kevin Chang

I can build the best team I can think of out of the rest of the world, and as good as they would be I think they would be the underdogs...

I would probably substitute Chang Yu Lung for either KPC or Kevin, although he hasn't had the greatest year so far.

Playing 9 ball only they MAY be favorite, MAYBE.

Any other game, 10 ball, 8 ball, banks, one pocket they are underdogs.

So if declaring all around, they don't even get a mention.

In all around a team of SVB, ALEX, DENNIS, and you could pick the other 2 from a list of 20 guys, and they would be an overwhelming favorite to DESTROY Taiwan.

10 ball and 8 ball not so much.. Banks and one pocket for sure though as I am sure that they have never played a single game of them in their lifetime.

Banks and 1-pocket are a non-issue. It is like a Canadian bragging that we kick the USA's ass at curling and make way better maple syrup...

8-ball you know that two of those guys on that list from Taiwan are World 8-ball Champions right?

10-ball I would take team Taiwan against the world as well. Not sure where you get the idea that they cannot play 10-ball?

It's a shame, no one ever stakes them to play or we could find out.
They have had numerous matches fall thru.

Big Ko played SVB in a race to 21 in 10-ball in a CSI challenge match. Ko won.

Then they had a CSI 10-ball invitational event.

Little Ko and Big Ko played in the final. Little Ko won.

They can play 10-ball.

I can remember when there weren't any "pool" players in Taiwan. When I lived there, back in the 70s, you couldn't find a pool table anywhere except for the American owned military clubs and recreation centers. The Taiwanese all played snooker.

Key word.
"Challenge match"

Have them find one of their rich Taiwan fans that likes to gamble. SVB has offered many times to play 10 ball for a few days, long races for 50k and up..... Don't you think if they liked their chances they would be knocking on his door?

No one has faith in them, or they would have already played.

Has he offered to go play them on their turf, in Taiwan?

Nah, we have been down this path a million times, and yet you want to walk it again...

They are not coming over here with pockets full of cash, but SVB and his backers are not jumping on jets and flying over to Taiwan for action either. Neither wants to give the home field advantage and spend the money and effort to make this match happen in the other person's country. Do you know how tough it would even be for a Taiwanese person to get a 50k stake from Taiwan into the USA or how easy it then is to get the money back to Taiwan if they won?

Offers for action come up all the time from people who want to play on their own home turf under their own conditions. Potts just challenged anyone in the world to come and play him on a Chinese 8-ball table for over $100,000 US in 8-ball, 9-ball, or 10-ball. As of yet I do not think SVB and John Mars have booked their flights to go and get the money.

"Oh yeah but if Potts came over and played SVB in a race to 100 in the TAR studi...." EXACTLY!

Didn't Alex make some kind of challenge just a while back, too?

Team factor

I agree with my brother Celtic but probably from a different perspective. I would lean toward team Taiwan because I think they would bond well and National pride factor would put them over (alla what's going on with Mosconi cup) vs Team All World. One on One SVB, Alex, Dennis O, Darren A + One wins on paper but team stuff has a life of its own. It's close enough to make the difference.

I guess you think they don't know any Taiwan people over here making plenty of money.

The Taiwanese are a dominant force now with or without Wu.
And, expect their domination to continue in a few years' time, as Big Ko, Chang YL and Kevin will still be in their prime, while young guns like Lil Ko, Hsu KL, Wu KL will have matured.

There are very few Taiwanese immigrants that are into pool here. Plenty of rich and wealthy ones, but very few that are die hard pool fans, unlike the Filipino crowd.

That's why they are rich :). Need to wait for the 2nd generation, maybe their sons will be more into pool

Funniest/clueless post ever. Taiwan must be giving you nightmares to speak like that.
