I believe in his prime he was ranked 3rd in the world at his best. He ducked no one for the cash in one hole, and not little $, BIG $$$$$! He took 3rd at Johnson City, and snapped everybody there off afterwards playing for the Cheez!
I know Buddy is pretty big....but you can't put him in the HOF twice.
LOL...Freddie missed that one...but did he...you could do one with Buddy and one with Cecil?

I worked a tourney for Grady in the 90's and watched Cliff Joyner and Rickie Rich literally play all nite. Been a fan of one pocket ever since.

Tony (Fargo) Ferguson i know he is in the banks HOF but he was a hell of a one pocket money player in his prime.
Michael, you could have done a lot worse!..As you know, Jay Helfert produced that event, and it really is a fun sweat!
But bear in mind, they were both well past their primes, and they both shot at everything that stuck out!..Just don't use it as a guide, to how one pocket should actually be played!..I also really felt like Ronnie was toying a bit with Danny, just to make it more interesting..but who knows?
Joyner and RR, may have been a better match-up, for learning the game, but if I recall, wasn't Richie getting a little weight?
If he wasn't, he should have been!..How did that come out?..Anyway, good to see you are now hooked on one pocket! :wink:

Sure, rub it in Jam..Keith has it made!..Most of my former stakehorses are either on welfare, or in rehab!..Several others just gave up trying to recover, and committed suicide!..It ain't easy, being a pool player who never won! :sorry:
PS..Just curious, isn't that Keith on the left, in Terryhannas photo in post #27?..Thats pretty much how he looked, the last time I saw him..Its been a while!

I'm not sure what you're meaning. Did you ever stake Keith? If you did, I did not know about it.

There are other people in the Hall of Fame, though, who did stake Keith when Keith was in his prime playing pool 24/7.
Geese was well known in the '80s, of course, and his main game was, most definitely, one pocket, no doubt about it.
He's not a name brand pool player like, say, Ronnie Allen or Grady Mathews, as an example, though to us in our neck of the woods, Geese was the best Maryland had to offer at one time when it came to one-hole.
Geese's road trips put his name on the pool map for some, but Geese preferred to remain incognito. In this regard, those who may have witnessed Geese in his prime may not have known his name. He went by Danny C. Poorman. Get it? :grin:

Believe it or not, today, Keith's best game is one-hole, and if he were to engage in a game of stakes, one-pocket would be his choice because it incorporates many skills of pocket billiards, not just breaks and pocketing balls. It's more like chess.
Keith has been nominated to be in the Hall of Fame several times, but due to the fact that he was not able to attend the Derby City Classic, it was thought that it would be better to wait until he was able to attend the festivities. Though it was horrible what happened to you when you fell ill that year you were inducted, it is very nice that you were, indeed, inducted and did not have to be there in person.

Thats good to hear Jam!..I know hes not a complete stranger to one pocket..and with his great natural skills at pool, if he gets back in stroke, he should pick up the finer points of 1P fairly quickly! (and believe me, there are plenty of 'finer points'!
)..It is, by far, the best gambling game on a pool table!And no, I never staked Keith!..I did bet on, or against him a few times, thats about it..Never a big swing, dollar wise!..I was just trying to be funny in my previous post!..Best of luck if you guys make it to the DCC..Should be a blast!..I know everyone will be glad to see him again, there was never a better crowd pleaser than Keith!..I would give both testi..well, a major body organ to be able to go, but my traveling days are long over!..Live all you can, while you can..We ain't gonna be around forever!
PS..Don't know if you knew it or not, but my being a little sick had very little to do with my not attending! I would have walked there, if I had to!..In fact, I forfeited several hundred dollars, in show up money, for pre-arrainged wagers I had!..The main reason was, my best friend and soulmate, my wife of 36 yrs, passed away quite unexpectedly, just shortly before the DCC that year!..She was only 65, (11 yrs younger than me at that time) and it was almost more than I could cope with!

Cecil Tugwell. The guy won a one pocket tournament against Efren Reyes playing opposite-handed. How strong is that? Cecil even admitted he couldn't rely on his left arm like he could with his right arm prior to his injury. Yet, even with the handicap of not playing with his natural shooting arm, he was still defeating champions.
Happy to say that Harry Platis and Billy Incardona are both in the Hall of Fame already.
