Yes, I've actually read all of Rand's non-fiction work. Some of it is interesting (For The New Intellectual is a good read), and some of her Fic as well.

I studied economics in university. The reason this is an ideological stance is that the field of economics just does not yield conclusions that "the market solves all". This is something that people who don't understand economics tend to think. It's like saying that since this thing called Physics exists, therefore warp drive is the only way to travel. No, that's what called a non sequiter.

The religion of the Free Market since the 1980's is a true religion.

But then depressions got " great " after the construction of the Federal reserve. Sounds to me you don['t know what you are talking about. The greatest threat to elephants is African over population not cue makers utilizing legal ivory.

I honestly have no idea how you think the Federal Reserve or the depression in the 30's has anything to do with the topic at hand. And nobody here wants to take away private property, that's never even come up. Elephants are not currently anybody's private property, that's kind of the point.

I'm a socialist? I'm not even sure you know what that means. You know that medicare and public education is "socialism" right? So when you turn 65 (assuming you're not that old yet), are you going to refuse your social security cheques because that's "socialism"? Are you going to refuse to let medicare pay for your prescriptions?

It's a bizarre cultural idiosyncrasy that's puzzling to the rest of the world. Especially since it seems the people who tend to do this, tend to not really understand what these words mean.

iirc Toni Atkins the California Democrat is the one that wrote the legislation here in California. She is as close to a socialist as you can get. Saul Alinsky was the guy that said you organize around the environment and then you use those organizations for other means.

That was back in the 60s. Perhaps you need to do your homework. The Communists like Tom Hayden back in the 60s and 70s called themselves the " New Left " that did not mean they were not commies.

The idea that Tom given enough power would not nationalize the means of production is remiss. He was behind rent control big time. His wife was giving money to all kinds of radical socialist organizations.

Both he and his wife openly advocated for communist victory in the Vietnam War. Hollywood rewarded Hanoi Jane with the accouterments of super stardom.

The facts are a biatch.

Guess why they're killing elephants today.

Let me be clear. Ernie did not violate any ethics making cues out of " legal " ivory. Overlord did not contravene any laws or ethics in purchasing cues with legal ivory.

This law is unconstitutional it is retroactive. Socialists are always looking for ways to erode private property. That's what they do.

If you want to defend your premises regarding your allegations regarding overlord I suggest you start a thread in NPR regarding same. I don't really like to get into politics and history on the main forum.

That may very well be. I've actually never said anything to the contrary. I also said I didn't want him to be in prison. That he may very well be a real good guy and master craftsman doesn't in any way enter into the ethics of the Ivory trade.
