Tony - very good summary exhibiting good common sense. Regarding the above, if a CTE user took practice strokes along one line, but at the last second delivered the cue along a different line, would you consider that a subconscious adjustment?
It's not part of the CTE system. Whoever is doing that is doing it and calling it CTE is wrong. However, I think I've seen what you're talking about. I've seen a couple 90/90ers stroking on one line and on the last stroke coming through the ball. A lot of pivot systems share a common ancestry from Hal.
I don't think it's subconcious and here's why. So they set up on their 90/90 line, then there's a point where the step is to pivot to center. You're supposed to do it as a separate step.
You line up and land on that offset line. Then when you're ready you look at center CB from your vantage point and you're supposed to turn your cue into what you perceive is center ball.
It's about as subconscious as you making sure your cue is at centerball.
Some people try and do it quickly so people won't think they're a "noob" for making such a drastic change when down on the shot. But if you slow it down, it's a simple movement to turn the cue to face centerball. Freeze, then shoot.
Again, I'm pretty sure what you're describing is 90/90 variant.
