Old Schuler...

I bought this cue I believe in '99 or '00 when I started playing three-cushion billiards. I bought it off of one of the house reg players. After I did, another player told me he thought I paid too much for it (I paid $300). About 4 ot 5 of the players there used to go to Vegas for the national championships in July. When they came back, the guy who sold it to me said Schuler had a booth there, and he was selling an identical cue signed for 10k. I believe he said the green in the points was the factor that made it an antique...anyone know anything?

That's almost certainly a Huebler. Reference here: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=436129

If it were a Schuler, I think it would be worth only slightly more, if anything at all.

I've heard the early Schuler's were signed in green, but that has nothing to do with your cue.

If it's any consolation, I think it's safe to say that no Schuler of a similar design ever has or ever will sell for anywhere close to 10k.

The seller was dishonest or sorely mistaken on both counts.

Schuler was famous for his three cushion shafts. I even had a guy send me a shaft and ask me to build a butt to match it. If there is anything at all on that cue that is made by Schuler it is most likely just the shaft. Now a signature saying Ray Schuler or By Schuler anywhere on the cue would maker us wrong on our assumptions it is not a Schuler butt.

That's an interesting notion.

At first I thought it might be a rare Huebler billiard shaft. But a Schuler shaft would explain how the Sculler name got mixed up with this cue.

But certainly, it is a Huebler cue.

Better pics of this clue including the bumper and the shaft and butt joint face would be appreciated.

If it has no Huebler logo it may have been refinished or may be an early cue. If it has a pill style bumper it is an early one.

Are you sure he sold it to you as a Schuler and not a Szamboti?

It's a Huebler, but the design is sort of Szamboti-like as far as Hueblers go, and he may have been making reference to Gus Szamboti's famous chartreuse veneer. A 10k price tag would be plausible on an "identical" G.S..

Huebler cue

Ok its easy if the cue is 57 in. long it was built before 1985
if it is 58 inches long it would have been made after 1986 and would have had the Cue By Huebler transfer logo on the butt cap
with out seeing more pics of the bumper and shaft
hard to tell when it was built
But it is for sure a H series brochure

That is not Ray's joint set up.
