New diamond just because?

every few months I get the urge to sell my table and get a 7' proam diamond, then I chicken out. I currently have a nice, good playing 8' Connelly furniture style table. I predominantly play local tournaments and pool room which in my area is 90% diamonds, 8% valleys, 2% 9ft gold crowns. (Approximately based on my play)

Selling my table sucks, I'm gonna damn near give it away vs cost invested but I can come to terms with that. I can pay for the diamond package no problem and would probably get the ball polisher also. My hang ups for not pulling the trigger are; size 7ft vs 8ft, the cash difference after my table when my table sold would be around $4000 depending if I get the complete diamond package or not.

my home table plays tough, with easier side pockets. The corner pockets have a deep shelf and a sharper entry angle. And after a hour on this the 7ft diamonds are really easy for me, so my one and only REAL question is should I get a diamond just to get a diamond? I don't need it, but kinda want it also. lol I'm a head case!!!!!!!!

Go for it. You only live once.
I'm gonna live twice. I figured I got screwed the first time, so I'm going around again. With three ex-wives I say to hell with it. I'm staying.
My first wife, now there's winner. I went out one day and bought a used car. I found her dress in the back seat, for crissakes.
And my second wife, she's no bargain either. When we had sex, she screamed! Especially when I walked in on her.
Oh, and my third wife, now there's a keeper. The only time we smoked was when we had sex. I was still on the same pack of cigarettes since 1975. I was getting a little worried about her, though. She was up to three packs a day.
Enough about me. I say go out and buy that.......what was it you were wanting to get?

If you're looking for validation or some rationale, I say go for it. You can obviously afford it; so get it; although I'm not totally wild about 7 foot tables.

YES JUST BECAUSE>>>The rules of life say a person can upgrade. I have a beautiful GC4 I considered swapping for a GC5. I would not hesitate to get a Diamond Pro. I would not hesitate to upgrade. You want it...Buy it. BTW...You are not alone. Proud member in good standing.......

IMO...no. My reasoning is: Keep your tougher playing table for practice. If, as you say, it makes the 7' Diamonds really easy when you get on them at the pool halls, then you are getting the correct results in your practice regime.

I'm buying one of the carom tables I sell soon enough

JUST BECAUSE it's wonderful, and at a price that cannot be beat

I'm like you,

In 3 yrs, 3 10ft heated world class carom tables will have passed through my garage and one 9ft olhausen

GO FOR IT! If it makes you happy

I bought a Diamond this year. Mine is 7 ft pro-am I ordered rosewood finish and pro-cut pockets. Like you I do not find the pockets to be overly challenging. I think if I had it to do all over again I would still have bought a diamond 7 foot table with 3 pc slate like I did. However, this time I would specify the actual pocket sizes to be tougher that "pro-cut" I might go for something like 4" pockets all the way around including side pockets. I would also specify that Artemis cushions be used. As the 7 ft tables come with lower quality diamond black cushions with only a 7 yr warranty. I would also specify the color precisely as Diamond looks at Rosewood and Cherry to be the same color and they are not. Also, I would check on the color of the writing in the routed name as some come in black writing unlike any of the artwork you see on the web. Diamond makes some of the best tables in the world right now but there is a difference between the quality and materials within the pro-am line based on the table size. There are a lot of people that would not want to play on a table that is tougher than a diamond pro-cut. If I am buying a table though I am buying it to challenge me. I am the one that will spend the most hours practicing on it.

If you have the space to get a 9 foot Diamond, get one. If not, the 8' diamond would be my choice. I find 7' tables a bit cramped but still like playing on them.
Trust me on this one, I upgraded to a Diamond a year ago and have zero regrets about it even though it is a 7' for the lack of space :)

As you noticed, there will be several opinions as well as rational to your dilemma.

In my opinion it all depends on the true concept of your strengths and weaknesses.
My game was at a point where pocketing balls wasn't what held me down, it was position/shape that resulted in errors and/or missed run outs.

After I spending at least 15 years with an 8' table, I put a 7' Diamond Pro AM in my house because when it mattered most, this was the table I play on.
It's been 6 years and still no regrets. After the first 2 years, I shimmed the pockets 1/4" (1/8" per side) and IMO it's the best of both worlds.

I replace my cloth twice a year (typ just the bed); I do it myself so it's less than $600 a year and works for me. Gluing cloth as done on the Diamond 7' doesn't hurt anything like all the staples would with my frequent cloth replacement.
I run the 860HR thought the year to emulate the same conditions as local leagues and tournaments.
About three months before Vegas and/or State, I install 760 for the speed; I find it to be the closest thing at home to the speed I see at the Rio and during the freezing cold state tournament rooms.
