Can't Break From the Bed

I am annoyed to say the least. Hit a rut and having a hard time getting out of it. When breaking from the rail, I have no problems making a good square hit on the cueball and headball. But, when I play 8 and 10 ball and I break from the bed of the table, I am around 50-50 on hit the cue square. So needless to say, I have no control over the cueball. Anybody have any tips/tricks/drills to work on?

If you hit them square and hard off of the rail why do you want to break from the bed.
You are only going to be a little closer .. If you have a chance to measure your
speed from both places that would help. I would like to do that, as I seem too also
make a squarer hit from the rail. Has anyone done that, and what were the results ?

One of my best pool related purchases is a Break-Rak. In 15 minutes of practice I can easily hit 50-60 break shots. It has helped me tremendously.

I choke up a lot on the butt of the cue when I break from the bed. Helps with power and accuracy for me at least.

Your right, this is the ticket.

The big difference between the rail and the bed is your bridge. I'd take a look at that.

Lower or raise your bridge when breaking from the bed. When your using the rail your bridge height is pre-determined by the rail height.

Watch Dennis O, he has been experimenting with his bridge height a lot.

Was always under the impression that to break from the bed in 8 and 10 ball was a better break. Don't see Shane breaking from the rail in either of these games. I have tried changing bridge length, height and my stance. Got a feeling it is something small that once I figure it out it will be a light switch.

why

why is it better? Does it generate more speed. It is easier for me to get a square hit
breaking off the rail. I can hit the cue ball as hard as I can and still get a square hit.
If I try to crush them from the bed sometimes not so square. So I have to take a little
off to make sure of a square hit.I still don't know why it is better.

It just is, for 10b, at least. Check out the match from greece, svb vs. Economopolopolopoloplus.
A master class in breaking (WInNER BREAKING,actually) by svb.
Cant argue with the man.
When you can get a good rack, i works.
the current generation has squeeked out aouther marginal improvement.

I cant break from off the rail either, so i move the cb back and use the head rail. You can fine tune the aproach angle better, but lose some accuracy.

Tighten up your bridge hand on the cue as it glides through. Really grip it there, see if that fixes your problem. Along with that, hit with a center ball contact, 1 cue tip lower than the shadow from what your seeing as center from the over head lights.

A running start , kind of like Happy Gilmore helped me for a while but now that
I am older dragging my walker along just doesn't work.

Take all of your change out of your right pocket, put it in your left one, put a pencil over your right ear and drink a liter of tequila. Then your ready for action.

People may laugh, but that is completely true. When I was a young pup, in the early 50's, we woulda taken chip out back and roughed him up for telling you that for free.

Course the liter had not yet been invented and we were all drunken up and it is hard to fight with a pencil behind your ear too.
