Just Purchased a new Meucci w/ Pro Shaft

A quick question...I went with the Soft Ultra Skin tip instead of the Medium but now wonder with such a low deflection shaft if I might should have stuck with the Medium.

I really would like them to put on a G2 but nobody will return my emails if that's possible.

I have what I call the best "cheap" cue I've ever hit with in the Players HXT15 w/ Black Kamui Soft tip 12.75mm and for the price, I love that cue. It will become my emergency que after my Brick and Mortar Meucci arrives.

Some of the Meucci's that I was down to choosing before going with the B&M-3 were the HOF-2, B&M-2, HOF-4, & Gambler cues.

Our BCA league has 3 players who use Meucci cues....They won't use anything else...I tried a friends Meucci and liked it a lot...I tried to talk them into selling it but they refused...Liked the hit.....Joint protectors are around $10.00...

Please come back and give a non-biased report after a few months of playing with cue. LOTS of folks will be interested, thanks !!!

Will do. Someone already PM'd me asking the same. I think I will report on my views every 2-4 weeks until a final thought 8-12 weeks out.

I'm interested to see how you like it. I sent a Lucasi hybrid back & was on the fence about a couple McDermotts or the Meucci high pro3 or hof4. The place I ordered from didn't recommend the Meucci @ all so I went with McD.

That's a good stick.

A player's cue, imo, has to be straight, w a good tip, and mostly, the player's confidence in the cue.

Takes time to learn a cue.

Once you have, that cue will be worth it's weight in gold to you. Ahh, ok, maybe not gold but...

The pro shaft on a 21st century butt is my player now. It got me out of a nasty 8-10 match losing streak (with p3 w/z2). I got mine from budget cues, excellent service. They sent it to me with an ultraskin medium, I thought I would change it if I didn't like it. It plays awesome, especially after a 3-4 day break in period. Won a whole lot more since getting it

Contact Jim Baxter who posts here. He can make Joint protectors to match your cue. Very reasonable..he made a set of 3 for me that match my Josey perfectly. (I suppled the pennies)

I was wondering if I should switch the tip to the Medium as I ordered it w/ a soft.

there's the first red flag.
Meucci is known for bad customer service.
good luck getting your cue.
i bought a Meucci back in the '80s when they were supposed to be good. It was crap. ferrule cracked and it warped in 6 months.

Yea I've emailed them 3 times in the last 3 days about 3 questions that I had. I wanted a picture of the free case and wanted to make sure it was black. I also wanted to get the G2 or Kamui tip put on the cue instead and I've heard nothing.

So I called today just now matter of fact and they only answer the phone w/ an automated greeting and you must leave a message. They won't Let you get to someone in person so I left a message.

What was ironic was their automated greeting said they preferred email and would respond immediately but as we know that hasn't happened as I've been waiting for 3 days now on a reply.

Nonetheless if I get the cue before they respond, I will just get a new tip put on by a local shop here in town.

It's a shame because simple customer service is not hard whatsoever. I mean I just dropped $600 and it's like oh well for them. They should have the same passion that I do about getting my cue right an on time. Heck I even told them i was in no rush in my first email.

big mistake. It could be months or years.
there are horror stories on AZB about their service.
i hate to be a downer but I would cancel the cue if you can.

To be fair they did reply today about 3 hours after my post above.

I asked about joint protectors in 1 question and the sales rep said he was going to give me some for free.

They sent me the pic of the case like I asked as well.

They weren't able to put a G2 tip on so I'm gonna keep their standard UltraSkin on and just see how that goes and change it if need be. I've also really enjoyed the Kamui black an the added black really give me a good sight picture vs the white cue ball as well.

The Meucci pro shaft, despite their claims, is definitely *not* the lowest deflection. Pretty much every Predator and OB are lower. That said, I think it is a great shaft. Very very lively, nice hit and feel, wonderful very long taper, and can juice the hell out of the ball. The deflection is definitely low, but a step or 2 down from the lowest. I think you should do ok with it. The pro shaft really is good.

I really do hope it works out for you.
As far as I'm concerned dropping 6 bones on a cue is serious.

Appreciate the heads up KM.

I don't like the super small shafts like the Meucci-UltimateWeapon or even the Predator Z3 an all the other brands under 12mm.

For me when I shot vs the Predator 314-3, I felt the ProShaft was better but everyone will be different I understand.

What's interesting is I am going to get another shaft as a backup and also something else to try out as well and I'm considering these choices along w/ a couple others not pictured(see pic):

The OB Classic Plus is a NICE shaft. Hits awesome, very low deflection. The OB1 is good too, I just personally like a crisper hit. But that OB1 plays great, and even lower deflection. The 314-3 is what I play with. I've come to like it a lot. It gets through the cueball nicely. The deflection is a bit odd with that one. At low speeds, it has super low deflection, but at higher speeds seems to deflect a lot more. This takes some getting used to, but once dialed in it really is a great shaft. My favorite thing about the 314's is the taper. Nice long pro taper that is very comfortable to me. I would say of the bunch you listed, the Mezz is probably the highest quality product. They really build a nice cue and nice shafts. I've played with the WD700 and honestly it is barely low deflection. I understand that the WX700 brings the deflection down some, but I don't really know how much. One other thing about Mezz, they seem very hard to get any custom stuff. You can't buy a partial shaft, and their shafts are a bit smaller than normal, like 0.832". This may result in a bad fit on whatever butt you are putting it on. Also, unless it is a Mezz butt, the United joint fits ok on a 5/16-14 piloted joint. I forgot what joint you said your Meucci had.

Edit: I see all your choices are 5/16-18, which I know Meucci uses. (Personally I prefer the 3/8-10 joint they also offer). Be aware that th eMezz United joint will NOT fit on a 5/16-18 screw.

Good luck in your quest!
